Peggy Anderson

January 2, 1934 — March 3, 2026

Peggy Ann Anderson went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 1, 2026. She was born on January 2, 1934, in Pageton, West Virginia, to the late Robert and Helen Shelton.

Peggy Ann Shelton married the late John Hurd, Jr., in 1953, and from that union they were blessed with six children. She later married the late Irvin Anderson, and they shared many years together until his passing in 2018.

Peggy was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of the Jerusalem Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio, under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. R. Nathaniel Kemper. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her in how she loved, served, and cared for others.

Peggy had a lifelong love for bowling. She played weekly in local leagues and traveled across the country to compete in tournaments. In 1981, her team won the Ohio State Championship, earning them the honor of competing in the 1981 Women's International Bowling Congress (WIBC) Championship Tournament held in Baltimore, Maryland. Her skill, determination, and competitive spirit earned her numerous trophies and awards and fulfilled her passion for the sport.

She was known for her vibrant personality and her cooking. Anyone who ever stepped into her kitchen could tell you Peggy could truly throw down. Her meals welcomed, comforted, and brought people together.

Although she was not a flashy dresser, you would never catch Peggy without her nails done. She took great pride in the cleanliness of her home and in her overall appearance. Her children learned early the importance of caring for their surroundings; washing baseboards and windows, and even using the scrub board for laundry. These were lessons in discipline, pride, and responsibility that she shared with them throughout their lives.

Peggy's home was a place of love, refuge, and warmth. She had an open-door policy and welcomed anyone who needed a place to lay their head, without judgment and without hesitation. Her heart was as generous as her spirit, and she touched countless lives through her kindness.

Having been blessed with a long life of 92 years, Peggy 's parents, her spouses, and her 11 siblings and her eldest daughter, Brenda Faye Palmer preceded her in death. Her siblings, Geraldine Shelton Smith, Robert Lee Shelton, Jr, William Shelton, Ralph Shelton, Barbara Lee Shelton, Ronald Shelton, Clifford Shelton, Joseph Shelton, Harrison Bernard Shelton, Donald Shelton, and Charles "Buddy" Allen, all welcomed her home in eternal rest, where they are joyfully reunited once again.

Peggy Ann Anderson will be remembered for her strength, her hospitality, her humor, her faith, and the deep love she held for her family and community. Left to cherish her memory are her five children, Sheila Cloud of Fayetteville, NC, Theressa Hurd of Columbus, OH, Mia (Bruce) Maynor of Columbia, SC, Christopher Hurd of Columbus, OH, Eric "Randy" (Cathy) Hurd of Columbus, OH and her son-in-love, Bishop Larry David Palmer, Sr. of Wesley Chapel, FL.
