The Legacy of Phyllis Hale
Phyllis Hale, affectionately known as "Mamo," was a quiet introvert who loved unconditionally. She loved her wonderful husband, whom she had been united in matrimony for 63 years before his passing. However, it was her grandchildren who made her heart skip a beat. As each one entered her life, her heart seemed to grow larger. She took pride in waiting on the porch every Sunday after church was over to watch her grands gaze with amazement over her soul food southern Sunday meal. She was an amazing cook.
Phyllis was born and raised in New Market, Tennessee, to the late Roger and Lorene Scruggs. She has one brother, Ronald, whom she loved dearly. She attended Nelson Mary High School in Jefferson City, TN. She played the piano for her church and enjoyed being a Sunday School teacher. She took up cosmetology school in Knoxville, TN. After graduating with her cosmetology license, she took flight on a leap of faith into her destiny and headed to Columbus, OH, to move in with her uncle. She moved to Ohio, where she met a smooth-talking, handsome, confident man named Roger, who later became the love of her life. To this union, two beautiful daughters were added to their small in size, but large with love, family. Phyllis worked at Nationwide Insurance for 30-plus years until she retired to raise her grandchildren.
On Monday, November 24th, Phyllis's husband came in her room, sat in the chair, and said to her, "It's time to go." Those who love her take comfort in the knowledge that she is now resting with her husband and daughter. Those waiting to greet her in Heaven include both her parents, Roger and Lorene Scruggs, wonderful daughter Kimberly Terrell, and her amazing husband, Roger, who she missed tremendously
Those remaining to uplift and carry forward her beautiful legacy is her loving daughter, Kristy (Sherwin) Armistead; brother, Ronald (Stephanie) Scruggs; grandchildren, Jada (Andre) Turner, Juan, Sherria, Danyelle, Simone, Syrai, Sherwin Jr.; great-grandchildren, Jajuan, Jamera.
