We announce the passing of Richard Gordon Jackson, affectionately known as "Rick," who departed this life peacefully on June 9, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on November 24, 1936, in Mansfield, Ohio, Rick lived a life full of love and adventure until he was called home.
Rick is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mattie McNeely; father, Augustus T. McNeely; and cherished sons, Eric, Keith, and Richard Jackson. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Patricia Jackson; daughters, Willia Johnson-Thurman (Charles), Mellisa Jackson-Medely (Stratton), Ou'sha Carmichael, and Alonda Jackson; and sons, Michael Jackson (Erin) and Dwayne Hall. He is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Locke; brother, Philip Locke; over 80 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Known for his warmth and generosity, Rick truly never met a stranger.
Rick was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having enlisted on February 4, 1954, and serving honorably until his discharge on June 6, 1958, during the Korean War. After his military service, he dedicated 28 years to the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) as a bus driver, where he earned the admiration of many.
An avid fisherman, Rick eagerly awaited his trips to Fremont, Ohio every May to catch white bass, with one memorable trip yielding over 30 fish. He was also a dedicated bowler, participating in several leagues throughout Columbus, and embraced life with a spirited involvement in the Corvettes of Distinction club, where he was known for his unique knack of giving nicknames to everyone he encountered.
Rick Jackson will be profoundly missed, but his legacy of love, kindness, and laughter will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
