Robert D. Scott Sr.

Robert D. (Bob) Scott Sr., 87, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born in Xenia, Ohio, on August 30, 1938, to the late Clarence William and Pauline (Sanford) Scott Sr. He retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as Deputy Chief of Supply after 37 years of dedicated service. A 1956 graduate of Xenia East High School, he also attended Central State University. Robert was married to the late Janice L. (Hall) Scott.

Robert was a longtime member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where he served in several capacities, including Trustees, Christian Men, Music, and Transportation Departments. He was a former Noon Optimist Little League (Perrin Woods) Baseball Coach and League President. A 33rd Degree Mason, he served as Past Master of Champion Lodge #15, Past Commander and Chief of Miami #26, and Past Worthy Patron of Golden Star Chapter #1. He was also a Prince Hall Affiliate, maintaining membership until his health no longer permitted participation.

Robert leaves to cherish his memory: his three devoted sons, Robert D. “Rob” Scott Jr. of Pickerington, Ohio, Richard D. “Rick” Scott Sr. of Springfield, Ohio, and Christopher R. “Randy” (Tamika) Scott Sr. of Huber Heights, Ohio; his very special daughter-in-law Lisa Brice-Johnson of Springfield, Ohio; longtime neighbor/“son” Brad Canavan; very special caregiver and daughter Pamela M. Hodge of Dayton, Ohio; siblings David (Chrissy) Scott Sr. of Yellow Springs, Ohio, Shirley Rice-Crawford of Springfield, Ohio, and April (James) Powell of San Diego, California; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; Aunt Elinor Sanford of Richmond, Virginia; and very special in-laws Carolyn Scott and Kenneth (Hubba) Phoenix, both of Xenia, Ohio; Kyra (Mark) Brown, Elvin A. Mickey Jr., both of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Lara Benson of Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, including Mr. Norman Moore Sr., Mr. Lawrence “Rex,” and Mrs. Lula Cosby.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn infant son, Brandon, on July 4, 1984; grandson Richard D. “Lil’ Ricky” Scott Jr.; great-granddaughter Dallas Montgomery; brothers Clarence William (Billy) Scott Jr. of Yellow Springs, Ohio, Edgar W. Scott of Xenia, Ohio, and Ronald L. Scott of Albany, New York; sisters Genevieve Scott-Corbett of Sacramento, California, Joanne Phoenix of Xenia, Ohio; and his grandparents Harry C. and Viola (Lewis) Sanford Sr., and Silas and Sarah (Hicks) Scott.

Wake and Masonic services will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Viewings and homegoing services will take place on Saturday, October 25, 2025, starting at 9:00am until the service at 10:00 am, at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 34 W. Pleasant St., Springfield, Ohio 45506. Please use the entrance on Mulberry Street.
