Rodney Kevin Smith, 69, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on August 1, 1956, in Columbus, Ohio, Rodney attended East High School and later continued his education at the University of Findlay, where he proudly played football. His dedication, discipline, and team spirit on the field reflected the values that would guide him throughout his life.
Rodney proudly served the Columbus Division of Fire for many years, dedicating his career to protecting and serving his community. Through hard work, leadership, and unwavering commitment, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant. His service reflected the courage, strength, and compassion that defined his life and earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and community members alike.
A devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, Rodney shared 24 loving years of marriage with his beloved wife, Angela Smith. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and love. Rodney found his greatest joy in spending time with his family.
A loyal Cincinnati Bengals fan, Rodney also enjoyed riding motorcycles, and keeping up with the news. He was a proud member of the Columbus Flames Motorcycle Club where he served as treasurer. Rodney also loved to dance and was known for his genuine smile, warm spirit, and ability to make everyone around him feel welcome.
Rodney was a faithful and devoted member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. He actively served in the Pastoral Choir and was a dedicated participant in the Men's Ministry and the MATCH Couples Ministry. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life, and he deeply valued the fellowship, worship, and friendships he shared with his church family.
Rodney was preceded in death by his son: Rodney Kevin Smith Jr.; his parents: Margaret A. Montgomery and George T. Smith Sr.; his brother: George T. Smith Jr.; his grandmother: Mary Elizabeth Fields; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Sam and Willa Calloway; and his great-uncles: William Fields, Vernon Fields Sr., Robert Fields, and Charles Fields Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving Wife: Angela Smith; Daughters: Porsche Weber and Raven Smith; Bonus Daughter: Samika Harrison; Bonus Son-in-Law: Richard Harrison; Brothers: Keith (Frances) Smith and Steve Smith; Grandchildren: Ra'Aira Phillips, Elijah Phillips, Ra'Myah Phillips, Jasmine Washington, Darius Weber Jr., Chancelor Burns, Jatorria Burns, and Noah Harrison; his beloved Great-Uncle: Carl Fields, age 93; and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, extended family members, friends, former colleagues, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness and love.
Rodney's legacy of service, faith, love, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will be forever cherished, and his impact will continue to inspire generations to come.
