With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sarah Jean Bowman, who departed this life peacefully on October 9, 2025, at the age of 88.
Born on December 6, 1936, to the late James and Martha Thomas. Sarah was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She spent her life selflessly giving to others and found her greatest joy in the simple, meaningful moments shared with family – especially her beloved grandchildren. Sarah enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved cheering them on at cheer competitions, dance recitals, football games, basketball games, and track meets.
On June 8, 1957, Sarah was joined in Holy Matrimony to Leon Bowman. A proud military spouse, Sarah traveled wherever duty called alongside her late husband, who preceded her in death in August 2000. She embraced the life of a housewife with quiet strength and unwavering love, building a warm and stable home that became a place of comfort for all who entered.
Sarah is survived by her loving children, Geoffrey (Elizabeth) Bowman, Leigh (Kevin) Allen; her cherished grandchildren, Kaleigh Allen, Paige Bowman, Ashton Allen, and Preston Bowman, her brother, Baron (Marie) Thomas; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family who will deeply miss her presence.
To those who knew her, Sarah will be remembered for her gentle spirit, deep devotion to her husband and family, and the way her eyes lit up at the mention of her grandchildren, who were truly the center of her world.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 10:00 am at New Albany Methodist Church, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am to honor and celebrate Sarah’s life.
