Sarah A. Smith peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Born on September 20, 1938, in Barnesville, Georgia—just outside of Atlanta—Sarah was the beloved daughter of Julius and Daisy O'Neal and is one of fourteen siblings.
Sarah accepted Christ at an early age, and throughout her life, He remained her anchor by guiding her steps, strengthening her spirit, and sustaining her through every season.
After graduating from high school in Barnesville, Sarah began a new chapter in Columbus, Ohio, where she joined her late husband, Earnest Smith, to build a loving home and family together.
A devoted homemaker in her early years, Sarah later found deep purpose and joy in her work as a babysitter. Through this role, she nurtured and shaped the lives of many children, leaving a lasting imprint on their hearts and the hearts of their families. Her care, warmth, and wisdom touched all who knew her.
Sarah was a devoted and faithful member of Ebenezer Full Gospel Baptist Church for over 50 years. Her unwavering faith and dedication to her church community were a central part of her life and a reflection of her deep spiritual strength.
Sarah is lovingly remembered and survived by her children: Willie (Patricia) Smith, Robert (Freda) Smith, Leonard (Lisa) Smith, and Linda (Rodney) Smith; as well as her cherished grandchildren: Adrienne, Jordan, Isjah, Zachary (Taylor) Smith, and Gabrielle; and her adored great-grandchildren: two beautiful great-grandchildren and one more on the way. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews in both Ohio and Georgia, all of whom were dear to her.
Sarah’s legacy of her faith in God, love, and service will live on through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
