Shavonne Smith was born February 21, 1986, in Chicago, Illinois, to Cedric and the late Jessie Carter. The family moved to Columbus, Ohio, in 1991, where Shavonne grew up and developed a love for music. She loved listening to the sounds of the instruments while playing the violin for 8 years. She attended Hilliard Darby High School, where she graduated in 2004, with honors, and got a full-ride scholarship to The Ohio State University. She pursued education with the thought of becoming a teacher, for her love of helping people. She loved helping the youth and mentoring people, and guiding them into their future career decisions.
Shavonne received her Bachelor’s Degree in English and began working at The Ohio State University in the BuckeyeLink department. After some time, she moved to the Financial Aid office, where she got promoted multiple times and became the Associate Director of Financial Aid. In 2020, she returned to The Ohio State University to obtain her MBA in Human Resources, where she ended her journey of 15 years of employment.
Shavonne married her soulmate, CL Smith, on May 29 th 2010, and has been together since 2005. Shavonne was a beautiful, caring, loving person all around. She enjoyed movies, reading, writing, traveling, and helping others when possible. Shavonne’s favorite traveling destination has always been Las Vegas, where she loved the atmosphere and the many attractions, such as shows and slot machines. She departed this life on April 30th, 2025, leaving a legacy of love undaunted.
Shavonne is preceded in death by her mother Jessie Carter, her Grandparents Roxie and Richard Johnson, her Grandparents Jake and Mary Carter, Uncle Darrell, Uncle Ted, Uncle Elba, Aunt Flora, Uncle Horace, and Uncle William. Shavonne leaves to cherish her memories, husband of 15 years: CL Smith. Daughter: Brooklyn Smith. Sisters: Tiffani (Aaron) Kaylor, Veronica (James Goolsby) Braddock, Tameika (Elijah) Frazier. Six Aunts: Marquita (Gregory) Underwood. Latricia (Rian) Cross, Polly Johnson, Joann Wrenn, Faye Carter, and Jennifer Carter. Three Uncles: Richard Johnson Jr., Ellis (Davette) Johnson, Kenneth (Melissa) Johnson, and Jake (Natalie) Carter. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
