With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Shawne Miller, affectionately known as “Cap,” who departed this life on October 4, 2026. Born on July 27, 1973, in Columbus, Ohio, Shawne was a beloved father, son, brother, grandfather, cousin, and friend whose presence left a lasting impression on the lives of so many. Though his time on earth has come to an end, the love he shared, the stories he told, and the legacy he leaves behind will live on forever.
Early Life
Shawne was born in Columbus, Ohio, to Diantha Miller and Ricky Stargell. Although life took him to different places throughout the years, he spent much of his time on the South Side of Columbus, a place that remained an important part of his journey. From an early age, Shawne possessed a vivid imagination and a natural gift for storytelling. What began as writing short stories during his high school years grew into a lifelong passion for creative expression. Through his words, music, and imagination, he found ways to explore life, make sense of his experiences, and share his unique perspective with the world.
A Creative Mind and a Visionary Spirit
Shawne was a visionary lyricist, storyteller, and author whose creativity reached beyond the ordinary. He had a gift for crafting captivating narratives that explored the hidden dimensions of reality, inviting others to look beyond what they could see and imagine what might be possible.
Despite facing difficult circumstances throughout his life, Shawne continued to learn, grow, and discover new ways to express himself. He transformed his experiences into inspiration, allowing his imagination to become a powerful part of his life’s journey.
In a new and exciting chapter of his life, Shawne embraced his calling as an author and published multiple books, beginning with Elijah and the Church of Shadows. This accomplishment represented more than a new title to his name; it was a reflection of his vision, dedication, and determination to share the stories that lived within him.
Shawne was excited about the future and eager to share more of his voice, ideas, and perspective with the world. His creative journey was a testament to the fact that it is never too late to pursue a dream, explore a new passion, or leave your mark on the world.
The Man Behind the Music and the Stories
Beyond his talents and ambitions, Shawne enjoyed the simple moments that made life meaningful. When he wasn’t making music, writing, or developing his next creative idea, he enjoyed spending time with family and loved ones, hitting the gym, and going crazy on TikTok.
He embraced the everyday joys of life and found ways to bring his own personality and perspective into the moments he shared with others. Whether through conversation, creativity, laughter, or simply being present, Shawne had a way of making an impression. He was a man whose life could not be defined by a single chapter, title, or experience. He was continually evolving, learning, creating, and discovering new possibilities. Those who knew and loved him will remember not only what he accomplished, but also the memories they shared and the unique spirit that made him who he was.
A Father’s Love and a Family’s Bond
Above all, Shawne was a father whose memory will forever live in the hearts of his children: Dominique Miller, Deshawne Miller, Drew Miller, and Derek (Aleha) Tartt. His legacy continues through them and through his beloved grandchildren, Mya Tartt and Taylor Tartt, who will carry forward a part of him for generations to come. He also leaves behind his loving mother, Diantha Miller, and his father, Ricky (Shirley) Stargell, along with his brother, Jamaal (Desiree) Miller Sr., and his sister, Serena Stargell. Uncles, Bernard (Gloria) Wright Jr. and Henry Miller; his special friend and the mother of his children, Angela McKenzie; and his special cousins, Demetrius Loveless, Leatitia Berry, Christopher Loveless, and Keith Dimmy Jr.
His family was an important part of his story, and the memories, connections, and love shared throughout his life will remain treasured by those who knew him best.
Those Who Preceded Him in Death
Shawne was preceded in death by his beloved grandmothers, Barbara Wright and Lucy Edwards; his grandfather, Joe Hall; his great-grandmother, Essie Berry; his great-grandfather, Ernest Berry Sr.; and his uncles, Ernest Berry Jr. and Douglas Berry Sr.
Though they are no longer here to share in his earthly journey, their memories remain a part of the family he leaves behind.
A Legacy That Lives On
Shawne “Cap” Miller leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond his years. His life was a journey of imagination, resilience, discovery, and growth. Through his music, his writing, his books, and the relationships he built, he shared pieces of himself with the world.
His story reminds us that every life holds chapters worth telling, every dream deserves the chance to be pursued, and every person leaves something behind that cannot be measured in possessions or accomplishments alone.
Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, his words will continue to speak, his stories will continue to inspire, and his memory will remain alive in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched.
Shawne was loved, is cherished, and will never be forgotten. His journey on earth may have ended, but his story is far from over. Through the lives he touched, the memories he created, and the legacy he leaves behind, Cap will continue to live on forever.
Rest peacefully, Cap. Your story lives on.
