Sheila Kaye Prillerman

February 6, 1953 — April 27, 2026

Columbus

Sheila Kaye Prillerman (February 6, 1953- April 27, 2026) born to Robert and Katheryne Henderson. She was the middle child of five and the oldest daughter. At an early age, Sheila lived in Poindexter Village before the Henderson family moved to their home on Richmond Avenue.

Sheila attended Hartley High School, where she made history as the first African-American student to join the Hartley drill team. She graduated in 1971 and was married shortly thereafter in her family home on Richmond Ave. Sheila continued her education at The Ohio State University before transferring to Franklin University, where she proudly pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Sheila served her country honorably in the United States Army Reserves for 17 years. She also dedicated her professional career to public service through her work with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO).

A true servant to the community, Sheila devoted her life to advocating for those in need, especially in the fight to end homelessness. Her leadership and commitment were reflected in her involvement with numerous organizations, including as a founding member of the Citizens Advisory Council, and through her service on boards and committees such as Volunteers of America, the Continuum of Care, the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio, YWCA Columbus, Faith Mission, and the National Alliance to End Homelessness. She was also a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star and remained deeply devoted to her beloved Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (Nu Phi Chapter).

Sheila was a proud and active member of Miracle Cathedral, under Bishop Jerry L. (Alice) Pierce where she was the president of the usher committee.

Sheila leaves to cherish her memory her Sons: Byrd A. Prillerman IV and Shinda (Darla) Prillerman; their father: Byrd A. (Linda) Prillerman III; her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren; her Siblings: Robert (Cathy) Henderson Jr., Charles E. (CC) Henderson, and Myrna Henderson; Special Nieces: Eljoree (Stefanie) Cargua and Niyonda R. Henderson; and a host of Adopted and Bonus Children, Grandchildren, Family, and Friends. Sheila will also be deeply missed by her Cousin: Pam Pace and her Close Friends: Pam Moser, Suellen Austin-Blasingame, Michelle Heritage, Karen Hurdle and Vonnie (Tumani) Caulk.

Sheila's life was one of service, compassion, and unwavering dedication to others. Her legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched.
