Shirley Ann Spivey was born in Morton, Mississippi on March 16, 1963. After courageously fighting a short battle with a terminal illness, Shirley passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of strength, love, family and friendships on October 4, 2025, in Columbus Ohio. Shirley was of the young tender age of 62.
Shirley was the oldest of the clan of Thomas (late) and Mary Carter. Even though Shirley was born and raised in Mississippi, her mother decided to move up north to Detroit, Michigan when Shirely was an adolescent along with her siblings: Barbara, John and Sharron. Then later she was blessed with the baby of the clan, the late Kathleen Ann Carter.
Shirley is the proud mother of her only child Brad Thomas Spivey. Brad decided to add another title to her name as Shirley became the proud Grandmother to Brad Thomas Spivey Jr, on September 19, 2025. Shirley’s biggest mission was to see and touch her grandson during her difficult time. That wish was granted to her on October 1, 2025.
Shirley graduated from Morton High School in Morton Mississippi in 1980 with a concentration in Cosmetology. In her earlier years, Shirley also did some modeling locally in the Mississippi area. While in Detroit Michigan, Shirely worked as a carrier for Pony Express. After moving to Columbus, Ohio, Shirley attended Columbus State Community College, where she received an Accredited Certificate in Rehabilitation Services. “Spivey” which most of her co-workers and friends knew her as, went on to become a Direct Support Professional at Noe Bixby Living Skills Center and Love for Mankind Day Program, where she assisted individuals with developmental disabilities. Spivey loved working with people and making people laugh. It was never a dull moment with Spivey around! Either you are laughing, dancing or eating. Spivey also enjoyed cleaning homes in her spare time, especially hers, yours and others as SHE SAW FIT. Spivey enjoyed life to the fullest while traveling, attending concerts/ plays, cookouts/parties and especially spending quality time with family and friends near and far. The way she lived her life was always a celebration.
Besides her loving son Brad and her precious grandson Brad Jr, she leaves to cherish her precious memories with her: Mother Mary (Detroit), siblings Barbara, John (Mandy), and Sharron (Joseph). Shirley had a special love for her nieces /nephews: Ebony, Johnna Ivory, Byron, Nick, Demari (late), India, Javion, Stephanie, Chrishawna, Kamaya, JT, Ki’onyte, Tre, King, Lavonna, Kia, Rio, Ziya, Zion and special grandchildren Daylen and Armonii. Along with her family, Shirley is survived by a host of beloved: Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Friends and her Alabama Family.
Gone to soon be never will be forgotten!
