Susie Carey

October 25, 1963 — October 23, 2025

Named after her Great-Grandmother Susie Shepherd, Susie Darlene Carey was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 25, 1963 to Glory Nell Carey-Pratt, and Alfonza Carey, Sr. Susie, a daddy's girl, was blessed with a winning smile that captivated everyone she encountered, as well as a heart of GOLD! Susie demonstrated her love of the Lord Jesus Christ by practicing daily to love thy neighbor as thyself, as well as sharing her home to ensure shelter for those she loved. She truly lived by the motto, "Mi Casa es Su Casa!"

Susie began her educational journey in Columbus Public Schools beginning at Hamilton Elementary School, Linmoor Middle School, followed by South High School where she began to establish life-long friendships with her peers. Susie took the road less travel by designing her own path. Susie obtained multiple certificates becoming a certified Foster Care Guardian, providing that motherly love to everyone she met.

Susie's most prize possessions were her sons John Carey whom she affectionately called "Boobie", Jason Carey whom she proudly called her "Beeper", Lil Nate Smith known as Tana Butt, and her Special Princess De'Ajea Matthews. We all know that Susie loved her children, but she would flip over backwards (if she could lol), over her grandchildren whom they were also given a special name that only she would use, Allen, Jaycion, Alexis, Delaya, Na'Shauna, J'Shaun, Timothy, John, Jr., and her three great-grand children Avyanna, Allen, Jr., and King. Susie was intentional about the love and support she extended to everyone around her. Susie was the epitome of friendship with those who were fortunate enough to have gotten to know her. Her closest friends simply became family. Susie's extended family members are countless, but if you knew her, you knew she didn't play about Champagne, Genieva, Vanessa, TaShawn, Chris, the entire Bursey Crew Jahonna, Octavia, Gloria, Michelle, Derrick (Lo), Rashaun, Elda, and YOU. Susie loved every one of her nieces and nephews, but extended a special love for Passion. Susie would want you to take care of her Princess De'Ajea Matthews, as she is a senior at East High School with a weighted G.P.A of a 4.33. Please consider blessing her so that she is able to pay all senior dues and cost as she progresses through her senior year. De'Ajea's cashapp is $brittsskey You can put Susie in the memo. Thank you in advance.

Susie is preceded in death by her parents Alfonza Carey, Sr. and Glory Pratt, her oldest and youngest sisters, Cathey Fountain and Felicia Carey, her longtime loving companion and best friend Hassan, favorite cousins Vanessa and Theodora Lynn, and a number of aunt and uncles, and other relatives.

Susie leaves to cherish her children John, Jason, Nate, and De'Ajea, her brothers Alfonza Carey, Jr., Brian (Lisa) Carey, Shawn (Stacey) Carey, and her now sister-less Sister Karen Carey, her grandchildren, and all those who love her.

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
