Valerie (Hall) Church, born July 27, 1953 in Lorain, Ohio to the late Thomas Felton and Elizabeth L. (Hall) Jackson entered into her final resting place on July 11, 2026. After graduating from Admiral King High School (Lorain, OH), Valerie went on to further her education at the Lorain Business College and Columbus State Community College.
Baptized at an early age under the leadership of Rev. C. W. Kendricks, Mount Zion, Lorain, OH, Valerie served in various ministries including the youth choir and senior usher board. After relocating to Columbus OH, Valerie became a member of the Greater Works Ministry led by Apostle Darin Allen. She served in the kitchen ministry, hospitality, while also serving as the finance officer for the church.
Valerie met and married James A. Monts, through which the loves of her life, Nyketa and Jacinta, were created. She loved to cook for her family and their friends, often hosting Sunday Fundays. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, the Pittsburgh Steelers and spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and great grandsons, Kai and Carter. As a multi-year breast cancer survivor, Valerie gave back by volunteering in various capacities at the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Valerie also enjoyed working with the mentally and behaviorally challenged adults. Her kind, caring, compassionate spirit was a perfect fit for that community she dedicatedly served for over 30 years.
Valerie is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Felton, Elizabeth L. (Hall) Jackson, and John Jackson; brothers, Raymond Felton and Harlan "Jimmy" Felton; sister, Johnnie Mae Day; and husband, Edward Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory two Daughters: Nyketa (Walter) Mason, Jacinta Monts (Derrick); three Grandchildren: Maia Monts-Burrell, Miles Mason, and Malcolm Mason; two Great-Grandchildren: Kai Monts-Burrell and Carter Mason. She also leaves to mourn her passing five Sisters: Janice Jackson (Lorain, OH), Cheryl (Clark)Jackson (Florida), Patricia (Pacheco) Jackson (Lorain, OH), Jewel Ransom (Detroit, MI), and Nadine Gladden (Lorain, OH); four Brothers: John Jackson, Jr., Joseph Jackson, Michael Jackson (Lorain, OH) and James (Jencie) Jackson (Columbus, OH) along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. Valerie shared a great friendship and love for her dear friend Maggie Henriquez. They love to travel, celebrate each other's birthdays, shopping and just spending time loving and laughing together.
Valerie brought joy to all those who had the blessing of meeting her and spending time in her presence. She will be missed beyond words by all who knew and loved her. The family extends heartfelt gratitude for your many acts of kindness as they journey through this valley. May God continue to bless each of you in wondrous ways.
