October 24, 1947 — June 6, 2025

Walter Daniel Harris, (Known as "Dannie" to his close family) 77, of Columbus, Ohio, peacefully departed this life on June 6, 2025, at Grant Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Walter was born on October 24, 1947, in Blackfork, Ohio, to the late Clarence Vincent Harris and Avanell Craddolph (Harris) Mattison. He was raised in Portsmouth, Ohio, where he graduated from Portsmouth High School with the Class of 1966. A proud United States Marine Corps veteran, Walter honorably served his country in the Vietnam War. His service was a true reflection of his bravery, discipline, and unwavering commitment to protecting others. Following his military service, Walter built a long and dedicated career with the United States Postal Service, where he worked faithfully for 30 years before retiring. He was admired by his coworkers for his strong work ethic, dependable nature, and good-hearted humor.

Walter later made Columbus, Ohio his home, where he faithfully attended Mt. Harmon Baptist Church. He was known for his kind spirit, sharp sense of humor, and endless love for his family and friends. He was united in marriage to the late Priscilla Harris, with whom he shared many cherished years until her passing in 2009. Together, they raised a beautiful family grounded in love and faith.

Walter was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Priscilla Harris; his daughter, Kelly Harris Carter-Jones; his brother, Jerry Harris; and his parents, Clarence Vincent Harris and Avanell Craddolph (Harris) Mattison.

He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory: his children: Michael Harris (Lynette), Columbus, OH, Kelly Harris Carter-Jones (deceased), Tamika McElroy-Harris (Keshawn), Columbus, OH, grandchildren: Dannaye Duncan (Lance), and great-granddaughter Trinity Brooks, Keith Jones Jr., and great-grandson: Prince Kelly, Danni Kae Carter, Michael Daniel Harris Jr., Sky Harris, Sophia Tamia Harris, Siblings: Anthony Eugene Harris "Tony", Alex Ryan Harris "Robbie", Marion L. (Jack) Hostetler "Tootie",  and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Walter was a man of honor, wisdom, and quiet strength. A very simple man at heart, he lived with humility and kindness, never seeking the spotlight but always shining through his actions. His straightforward and down-to-earth nature made him approachable and deeply loved by family, friends, and everyone who knew him. Walter's legacy is one of integrity, gentle strength, and unconditional love, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
