Willie Clark Jr. was born on October 11, 1963, in Sandusky, Ohio, to Willie Clark Sr. and Mattie Clark. As the youngest of four boys and one of fifteen siblings, Willie was raised in a loving family in which the fear of the Lord was instilled from an early age. That foundation of faith would remain a guiding force throughout his life, shaping the man, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend he would become.
Willie was a standout multi-sport athlete growing up, playing baseball, basketball, football, and track. In high school specifically, he was a standout defensive back for the Sandusky High School Blue Streaks, Class of 1983. Known for his speed and agility on the field, he helped lay the foundation for a competitive era for the Blue Streaks football program. In his senior campaign, Willie received First Team All-Ohio honors and was named the Associated Press AAA First Team All-Ohio Defense. His accolades also carried over to Track and Field; his 4 x 100 relay team holds the 1983 Ohio High School Athletic Association State Track Meet record. His outstanding accomplishments as a student-athlete earned him a well-deserved induction into the Sandusky High School Hall of Fame.
Willie continued his education and athletic career at Taft Community College in Taft, California. His awards continued as his 1985 Track and Field team dominated the California Community College Track and Field Championships. This win earned him and his team an induction into the 2017 Taft College Hall of Fame. He later completed his collegiate football career at Utah State University, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Marketing.
While Willie accomplished much throughout his life, perhaps his greatest blessings came through his family. He married the love of his life, Michelle Clark, and together they shared 36 beautiful years of marriage. They welcomed their firstborn son, Mychael, in Sandusky, Ohio, before moving to Columbus, Ohio, where they would raise their family and welcome two more children, Blair and Taylor. In his later years, Willie's title was upgraded from father to "Papa C" as he welcomed two handsome grandsons that he adored. Willie cherished his role as a husband, father, and grandfather.
Willie was known for his kind spirit, infectious laugh, bright smile, quick sense of humor, and love of cooking. A true sports enthusiast, Willie continued to follow sports, often attending local football and basketball games and the State Track Meet every year. He remained steadfast in his faith, while attending World Harvest Church and intermittently serving as a lay leader.
More than anything, Willie was devoted to his family and friends. He cherished relationships and was a source of strength, laughter, and unwavering support. His legacy continues through his loving wife, Michelle Clark; beautiful children, Mychael Clark, Blair Clark, and Taylor Young (Robert Young Jr.); vibrant grandchildren, Izrael Clark and Elijah Young; his mother, Mattie Clark; brothers Ronald Pickens (Sheryl Pickens), John Pickens (Pamela Pickens), Wayne Pickens (Mary Pickens), Willie Ray Parker; sisters Claudine Page, Dorothy Clark, Barbara Clark (Calvin Richardson), Claudia Clark, Vivian Clark, Deborah Kaiser (Eric Kaiser), and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He now reunites in peace with his father, Willie Clark Sr., and his beloved sisters Willie Mae Keys, Pauline Smoot, Linda Manizone, Sandra Fennell, and Wendy Clark-Peden, who preceded him in death.
Willie's life was a testament to faith, family, and perseverance. His smile, laughter, genuine spirit, and compassionate heart will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. May we find comfort in the promise of God's Word and the assurance that this is not goodbye, but a temporary separation. Willie has completed his earthly journey and is now resting in the presence of the Lord.
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
