Ola May Hughes, 84, of Columbus, OH went home to be with the
Lord on October 1, 2021. She was born July 2, 1937, in Alexander
City, AL. She was the proud mother of one daughter, Mary Dell
(Powell) Martin and was married to the love of her life, Willie
Hughes for over 30 years. Before they moved back to Alabama, Ola
May worked for many years as a custodian at Franklin University.
Ola May enjoyed singing and praising the Lord. She also loved
spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. When she
was able, she liked to getaway on the weekends to relax.
Ola May is survived by 3 Granddaughters
Pamela (Fred) Pace, Rhonda (Lucas) Agbaje, and Sandy Martin, all
of Columbus, OH; and 1 Grandson Joe (Cassi) Martin Jr. of
Louisville, KY.
20 Great Grandchildren; Marlisa Martin, Marquetta Martin, Marvin
Martin, Drake Woodfork, Thomas (TJ) Martin,
Jovell Arnold, DaeShaun Martin, Danielle Pace,
Raven Tucker, Jacques Tucker, Dominic Martin,
D’Andre Martin, Ionna Williams, Aireonna Williams, Damiya
Martin, Miracle Ward, Chad Lewis Jr.,
Maryah Lewis, Cam’Ron Lewis, and Maryonna Martin; and
22 Great-great grandchildren.
Ola May was preceded in death by her parents, her husband
Willie Hughes, and her daughter Mary Dell (Powell) Martin.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Private Visitation 1:00 PM and Private Funeral Service 2:00 PM Friday, October 15, 2021 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH 2500 Cleveland Ave. Interment at Eastlawn Cemetery. Mask and Social Distancing are required.

Sending condolences from the Russell family on the loss of our Aunt Ola May. We will miss her but are honored and blessed to have known her during her lifetime. She was truly a blessing in my life and I have nothing but fond memories of the times we spent together in Virginia and when we visited her in Ohio. Our Aunt Ola was a wonderful and gentle soul and she will forever remain in our hearts. May she rest in peace.
