Otto Charles Jr. also known as Nick, the son of Josephine Griffith and Otto Charles Sr. was born on May 18, 1952, In Harlan, Kentucky.

His family moved to Columbus, Ohio when Nick was young child. His parents joined Asbury United Methodist Church soon after their arrival. Nick and his brother Cedric learned to love the Lord and they worshipped him throughout their lives.

Nick loved his family dearly. He also loved music. He proved himself to be a drummer at an early age. From his early years in Columbus City Schools until his graduation from North High School in 1970, he played in as many orchestras, stage, and marching bands as time would permit. Following his graduation he attended the capital University Conservatory of music, where he excelled.

Nick served in the U.S Army, traveling around the world and entertaining his fellow troops in numerous bands. Following his honorable discharge, Nick worked for The Ohio Youth Commission and the American Electric Power Company.

Nick departed this earthly life on Friday, September 27, 2019 at The Ohio State University Hospital.

He is preceded in death by parents, and brother Cedric Lamont Charles.

He leaves to cherish his memory; sons Michael, Heiko, and SchaScha Charles, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, special friend Gerda Charles, special aunt Ora (Cleve) Westmoreland, special cousins Harry (Barbara) Goins, Alexandria, Charlotte Carter, Belva (John) Ramsey, and Gonnie Goins, also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Visitation 11:00 AM and Funeral Service 12:00 PM Monday, October 7, 2019 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1586 Clifton Ave

Interment at Union Cemetery Association.

    I have known Otto for over 20 years. We were friends from the time we met until the last time I saw him. I am very saddened to hear of his passing. When I was fighting cancer he was a rock for me. Rest in peace my friend.

    We are just hearing of him passing. I grew up with Nicky and Cedric on 8th Ave back in the 60’s. Our family is very sorry to hear about this and would have attended his service if we had known. Rest In Peace our dear friend ❤️ The Parker Family
