Patricia Ann Holmes

HolmesPatricia

Patricia Ann Holmes was born August 19, 1942 to Eloise and Sidney Jenkins in Memphis, Tennessee. She lived this life to the fullest with a strong love for her family. Pat was raised with her two sisters, Phyllis and Peggy and spent most of her life in Columbus, Ohio.

Pat graduated from Linden McKinley High School in Columbus. During her high school years, she met and dated Robert Stanley Holmes, her senior prom date. A few years later, she married Stan and their union was blessed with two children, Roderick (deceased) and Robert, the joy of her life. Even though she and Stan eventually divorced, Pat was still an integral part of the Holmes family and remained close with her extended siblings and family.

Building on the strong work ethic of both parents, Pat worked for Baxter Healthcare in Customer Service for over 30 years and retired in 1999. While she gave up the “9 to 5” job, Pat was bored just sitting at home. She loved to talk to people so she picked up a part-time job at K-Mart. She worked there until they eventually went out of business. Pat then found other hobbies. She loved her dogs and took great care of them all, she loved her TV shows – Oprah, any ‘true murder’ investigative stories, and she loved her politics. In addition to her TV, she loved her computer games and social media, particularly Bookworm, and Facebook, where she could check in on everybody!

The one thing that Pat loved more than anything was her family! She loved and cherished Robert. She let everyone know how proud she was of him and later how much she loved having a daughter in Gaye and her grandchildren Taylor and Vincent. She definitely spread her love around as she enjoyed ‘mothering’ and opening her home to Spanky, Melvin, Kai, and later her great nieces Aliyah and Makayla. Even though her health declined rapidly in the last year, she was very proud to see her grandchildren and great nieces graduate from high school. She departed this earthly place on Sunday, April 26, 2020, at her home.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Eloise Jenkins, and her son Roderick DeMond Holmes. She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved son, Robert (Gaye) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Taylor and Vincent Holmes; sisters, Phyllis Earley and Peggy Thomison; nieces, Kamilah ‘Kai’ Mitchell, Aliyah and Makayla Mitchell, Briaunna Drummond-Earley and Sydney Earley; nephew, Diallo Earley; and a strong network of close family and friends, Faye Banks, Sylvia Joab, Carolyn Holmes, Deborah Holmes, Ora Holmes, Robert ‘Spanky’ Caldwell, Rhonda Garrett, Dawn Brown, Shirley Leaks and many more.

Private family Visitation 6:00 PM and Memorial Service 6:30PM Friday, May 8, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH 2500 Cleveland Ave.

  13. Dear Family,
I worked with Pat for her entire career and was overwhelmed with the many many beautiful comments that I received after I shared her obituary on Facebook. There were so many people who worked with Pat and loved her as a friend and colleague. She was considered to be a mentor and role model to all she worked with. You should be so so proud of her. May she rest in peace.

  14. Pat,
Everyone else knew us as cousins but we knew we were more. I have so many memories of the things we got into. The way we saved each other and the trouble we caused others. I am going to forever miss you here now but I know you will be happy to see rest of family, especially your boy Melvin (my son). Love you always and see you when I get there. You Know we have a lot to answer for when we are around the throne of the Lord.
