Petressa Ohara Program Photo 001

Mrs. Petressa Aldean (Ward) O’Hara was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 1, 1931. She departed this life two days before her 86th birthday on September 29, 2017, at home with her daughter and two sons at her bed side when she was called to her heavenly home.
She graduated from Central High School and went on to earn her degree at Ohio State University in Social Work.
She was employed at the Columbus State Hospital as a nurse assistant and was a member of their Employees Activities Association. She also was employed at the Franklin County Welfare Department as a social worker and received an award for the “Welfare Outreach Project sponsored by the Columbus Model Cities Program.” However, her lifelong career (for over 50 years) was as an Avon Representative. Back then, she would go door to door selling Avon, and though she received many, many Avon awards, her greatest rewards were the friends she made over the years, and one of her dearest friends that she past the baton to was Mrs. Sharon Dixon.
She was a former member of the Eastern Star and a member of the NAACP.
She was a former member of Bethany Christian Fellowship, however, when her daughter Mildred Tate became Pastor of Acts of Faith Community Crusade Church she moved her membership there, and though her health did not allow her to attend services it never hindered her love and support to the minister.
There’s only one book in this world that could identify all the characteristics of Petressa O’Hara. The Holy Bible (Proverbs 31:10-31) titled “A VIRTUOUS WOMAN” in it there’s a question asked, “Who can find a virtuous woman?” and we can answer, “Thank God we have.” For her price is far above rubies.”
Petressa was very intelligent, gifted and talented in so many areas: cooking, sewing, counseling, telling stories, and a great listen, working puzzles, Sudoku, a great fisher, you name and she probably could do it, however, her gift of drawing was remarkable and her artwork was a master piece from God.
Above all, her greatest and most heartfelt LOVE & devotion was to her children, family and friend!
Petressa is preceded in death by her husband, Willie James (Jewel) O’Hara, loving mother, Hester Ward, brothers: Creedon Ward & Spencer Ward, daughter, Hester Nyamweya, son, Richard O’Hara, granddaughter, Demetria (Dee Dee) O’Hara, grandsons, Martin Nyamweya and Victor Lynn Jr.
Petressa leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Mark (Brenda) O’Hara, Victor O’Hara, daughter, Mildred Tate, grandchildren: John, Paul, Petressa Nyamweya, Marla O’Hara, Richard O’Hara Jr., Michelle, Jeanetta, Kathy Robinson, LaJuan & Nakia Butler, LaShaunda Reese, Gary Jr. (Lisa), Mark (Lindsey), Eddie Tate, Twila Lucas, special family member Judy Smith, a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, special nephew Billy Burgess, cousin, Madeline Graham family, friends and extended Acts of Faith Church Family.
