Peyton Kern Partridge was born in War, West Virginia to Sarah Belle (Gammon) Partridge and Willie Lee Partridge on October 13, 1946.
Preceded in death by both parents, four sisters, Estella Chisley, Christine Geraldine Coates, Marian Collins, Willa Ann Johnson, and brother Herman Partridge.
Survived by sisters Evelyn Partridge Ferguson (Herman) and Ruby Partridge, and brother Raymond Partridge (Marie). daughters Tanya Partridge, Cheryl Partridge and Carla Partridge New (Leonard), their mother Ann P. Partridge. grandchildren Jacquelyne, Camara, Christopher, Jaiden, Adam, and great granddaughter Aaliyah. Former wife, Frances L. Smith, and children (Nikki Ferraro and Tim Pitts) and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Peyton was the seventh of ten children. He attended and graduated from Excelsior High School in War, West Virginia in 1964, and settled in Columbus, Ohio.
He was strong in his Christian faith and was a 30-year member of Rhema Christian Center in Columbus, Ohio.
His passions included family, shopping, cooking, selfcare and holistic living. He also loved fishing and took annual fishing trips to New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Canada with work and church friends.
He was well known for his compassion, helping anyone in need, never meeting a stranger and sharing pearls of wisdom. He took his role as a provider seriously. He began preparing for this at the age of 10 when his father appointed him as “Man of the House”, shortly before he passed away. Peyton assumed the responsibility of ensuring that his mother and siblings were well cared for. When he had his own family, Peyton worked tirelessly to continue in this vein.
His 50-year construction career started right after high school graduation, when he was hired by his Brother-in-Law as a Brick Laborer. In his downtime he taught himself how to lay bricks by watching brick layers at work. In later years, he went to work for the Sherman R. Smoot Company (one of the largest minority-owned general contractors in the nation), where he became a Forman and Superintendent. In the late 1970s, he founded his first company, Masonry Unlimited. He later founded Preferred Structures Inc. with his brother Herman. After Herman passed, he founded PKP Construction. Some of the notable projects that he completed include Houlihan’s Restaurant at the Continent, which won a Builder’s Exchange Award; St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville; Northwoods Office Complex in Worthington, World Harvest Church in Canal Winchester; Franklin County Reintegration Center; Central Trust Bank in Newark; Restoration/repair at the Marconi Building in Columbus; Friendship Village in Dublin and the Len Immke Buick & Rolls Royce dealership.
After retiring from the construction industry in his 60s, Peyton launched a new career with Wide Open West (WOW) as a Field Sales Representative where he became the Top Sales Representative in the Central Region and was credited with helping to grow the region. He worked for WOW full time until August 2021 when he became ill.
When asked what he wants the world to know about him, he shared “I am the beginning of a foundation that will never experience another individual like me again. My family has been trying forever to get me to retire, so if I retire, then that means that my legacy will have ended, and I am determined to never allow it to end. There was none before me, there will be none after me and therefore, next to Jesus, it makes me a one and only. “

My condolences to the Partridge family. Sorry to hear of the home going of Peyton. The Howell family wants you to know that you are in our prayers. We grew up together. It was good seeing Peyton at our school reunion when we were in Columbus in 2018.

I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of Peyton. I worked with him each time I visited Columbus for Wide Open West. His “never met a stranger” attitude drew me into his open and welcoming personality. In our short conversations between setting up trade show displays and handing out flyers he told me about his family, especially his grandchildren. He said he lived a blessed life and I believe those around him were blessed because of him. When I arrived to Columbus in August to hear Peyton was ill I sent him a message that “It just won’t be the same without you.” And I believe it still. I’m happy to have shared a small amount of time with him. God Bless.

The Partridge family is huge, not just because of the Family Members but because one of their Patriarchs (Peyton) was a Father, Brother, Cousin, Friend, Mentor, Neighbor, and Confidant to soooo many. In an age of Selfishness he remained SELFLESS his entire life. May Peace be with the Partridge Family at this time. It was an honor to know him and thank you for sharing him with us.
