Life began for Phillip Wayne Holmes on October 7, 1949 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Willie and Zelma (Pitts) Holmes. Phillip enjoyed playing and watching basketball. He also enjoyed watching football.

Phillip graduated from East High School where he played basketball and wrestled. He later started working for the City of Columbus in the sanitation department. After retiring from the City of Columbus, Philip became a driver for Corporate Courier.

Phillip met his sweetheart, Emma Freeman, at Franklin Junior High School. He always knew she would be the one he would marry. Phillip and Emma were united in holy matrimony on June 15, 1968. To this union, two children were born: Tamara and Bryant Holmes.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Zelma Holmes; brothers, Ronald, Andrew (Louella), and Stanley Holmes; sister, Hilma Jean Sanders; and nephew, Ronald Holmes.

Phillip, age 70, departed this life on March 5, 2020. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 51 years, Emma Holmes; daughter, Tamara Holmes; son, Bryant (Kimberly) Holmes; 3 grandchildren, Christopher Wright, Lakeia Wright, and Bryant (Immanuel) Holmes; six great-grandchildren; sister’s-in-law, Diane Holmes and Betty Holmes; six nephews; six nieces; and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation 11:00am and Memorial Service 12:00pm Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at MARLAN GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.
