Richard Leroy Moore Jr., 77 was born August 27, 1945, in Woolwine, Virginia to the late Richard Leroy Moore Sr. and Gladys Ross. Richard passed away peacefully on Sunday January 8, 2023, at St. Ann’s Hospital.Richard attended Patrick High School in Patrick County, Virginia. After High school he moved to New Jersey and was employed by Sysco Foods he later relocated to Columbus, Ohio and retired from Abbott Foods 2005. After relocating to Ohio, Richard became a member of Second Shiloh Baptist church where he met and married the love of his life, Cathy. Richard became an Ordained Deacon November 21, 2008. Richard is a member and President of the SSBC Men’s Choir. Additionally, he received the Man of Distinction award in 2013.

Richard is preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Ann Smith, and stepson Richard Lamar White.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his loving and devoted wife of 26 years, Cathy, sister, Mary (Joe) Scales, daughters; Amanda Holmes, Floretta (Sam Jr.) Hubbard, stepdaughter; Hattie White-Henry, sons; Vincent (Shawn) Moore, Richard Pritchett, stepson; George (Lanette) White. Sisters- in-law; Rosia White, Mona (Charles) Robinson, Virginia Trudell and Angela (Andrew) Edwards, 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Special friends; Deacons Stanley Brookins and Joe Jackson.

Richard was loved by all he encountered, and his style was second to none. Known not only by Richard or Deacon Moore but also by Papa, Candyman, King, Pops and Big Poppa. Richard often spent his free time hanging with his brother-in love Charles, cheering for his favorite football team the Philadelphia Eagles and raiding candy dishes both near and far. Richard loved attending his annual family reunion held in Sandy Ridge, North Carolina. His never-ending love for his wife was always echoed when he said “hay baybee”. Richard will be missed but God knows best.

Visitation 9:00 AM and Funeral Service 10:00 AM Friday, January 13, 2023 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. (one block east of Noe Bixby, turn North on Lonsdale Rd.).

Interment at Evergreen Burial Park.

To Cathy, Mary Elizabeth and the rest of your families, We are so sadden to hear of the passing of your loved one. We have such fond memories of Richard from back in the day. We grew up together in Woolwine, VA. Richard has received the ultimate healing along with is winds.
