Robert Joseph Travis Sr., was born September 30, 1934, in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was the son of the late Marshall and Martha Travis, he was one of four children. Robert attended Central High School where he graduated.

After graduation Robert joined the Air Force as a staff sergeant where he served for six years, including serving in the Korean War.  He was honorably discharged in 1956.

Robert extensively traveled overseas before returning to Columbus, Ohio to engage in various occupations to provide for his growing family. Pursuing more work opportunities, Robert relocated to Warren, Ohio where he worked construction for Republic Steel, and resided there for the next 40 years before returning to Columbus, Ohio after retiring to be closer to his siblings, children, and grandchildren.

Robert enjoyed cracking jokes, fishing, playing cards, reading, and watching nature and Sci-fi shows. His true love was spending time with his children and being there when they needed him. He will be remembered for his constant presence and support at football games, school events, and assistance with friends and neighbors. Additionally, Robert loved to cook. Eggs, creamed chip beef, and shrimp were some of his best dishes. A shared sentiment among his family and friends is, “He was always there.”

While Robert’s health was challenged and his mind and memory began to fade, with the assistance of his son and caretaker William, Robert confessed Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 2021.

Left to cherish his memory, his brother Marshall Travis, Jr., of Columbus Ohio, children, Roberta J.
