Robert Wendell Jones (“Big Bob”), was born January 15, 1962, on Lockbourne AFB, Columbus, Ohio, to Samuel T. Jones and Abbie (Childs) Jones.

He succumbed to his injuries and departed this life as a result from a motorcycle accident and answered his heavenly fathers call on September 2, 2022, in Columbus, Ohio at 60 years old. Robert accepted Christ at an early age and was a true believer in his Lord and Savior.

He received his education in Columbus Ohio where he attended Smith Road Elementary, Corpus Christi School and Father Wehrle Memorial High School. He later attended Ashland College where he pledged Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Royal Blue became his favorite color.

“Big Bob” as he was lovingly referred to during his high school and college basketball days loved to play basketball. He was a 1980-81 District 10 High School All-Star and was heavily recruited by several colleges and universities to play Basketball. He selected Ashland College/University and received a full scholarship. Bob was known for his caring heart, bright everlasting smile, and his ability to mentor other basketball players. Closer to his heart than basketball was his love for his family, children, and a host of very close friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother Abbie D. Jones and great grandchild Robert William Johnson III. Precious memories live on in the hearts of his father, Samuel T. Jones Sr.(USAF retired), his brother Major Samuel T. Jones Jr, (USMC retired) of Columbus OH, his sisters Lt Colonel Jacqueline Renee Jones, (USAF retired) of San Antonio TX and Diahann Venice Jones of Pipe Creek, TX.

He will be lovingly missed by his 5 children Robert William Johnson, Ryan Todd Johnson. By his fiancé Meagan Andrews and their 3 children Ayvha Jones, Abygail Rose Jones, Addyson Jones, and 4 grandchildren Malaysia Sky Johnson, Nyasiah La’Nae Johnson, Bri’Asia Chanel Lynn Johnson, Rylee Gabriel Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and caring friends.

“Big Bob” will be missed by his entire family, and a large host of his very special lifelong friends.

Visitation 10:00 AM and Funeral Service 11:00 AM Friday, September 9, 2022 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. (one block east of Noe Bixby, turn North on Lonsdale Rd.). Interment at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. My sincerest condolences to the entire Jones family at this difficult time. My prayers that God may ease your grief and grant you peace knowing that He has relieved Bob from his worldly burdens and granted him a place in His heavenly kingdom.

Bob was among the most outgoing and friendly people I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. His smile would light up a room, and his gregarious personality always made you feel more than just welcome; he made you feel like family!
