Roosevelt Turner

TurnerRoosevelt

Roosevelt Manley Turner was born on January 30th, 1957 in Columbus, Ohio; the first born of the union of Roosevelt Turner Jr. and Irene Brooks-Turner. He was a life-long resident of Columbus.

Roosevelt, affectionately known as “T”, “Mr. T” or “Rosey”, was the patriarch of the Turner family and a beautiful soul. As a gentle giant he never met a stranger, was loved by countless, and a father figure to many. He met the love of his life, Linda Ann Broadnax-Turner in January 1980, they married March 1985 and enjoyed 36 years of marriage together; out of their union, they had 3 children: DerRick Anthony, DerRon Adam and Christina Danielle. As an adoring Dad and husband, he loved spending time with his wife and children, watching and talking sports with his sons, music with his daughter, and enjoyed playing and laughing with his granddaughters, Imani and Isabella, talking proudly of everyone all the time!

Growing up, he attended Brentnell Elementary, Eastmoor Jr and Eastmoor Sr High School in Columbus Public Schools. After high school, he served and traveled the world in the US Navy (1975-79), Naval Reserve (1979-81) and received a certificate in Electronics from DeVry University (1981). His work history included time with ADT, DFAS, COTA, and First Student. His family attended Woodland Christian Church as a youth, but he would ultimately give his Life to Christ in 1969 at Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith, along with his mother Irene and sister Anita. Roosevelt would later become a member of New Covenant Believer’s Church with his wife and children for over 20 years.

With his long-time best friend Mike Burke, and close friends, Mike Zimmerman, Steve Spann, Ahmad Khair, and Willie McClendon, Roosevelt spent many great nights bowling in Columbus and surrounding states. Along with his love for bowling, he was a History buff, loved Old Westerns, Old-School Funk Music, and if you knew anything of Roosevelt, you knew his passion for his beloved Oakland Raiders Football! As a Raider Fan since 1969, he rarely missed a game and spent many Sunday Afternoons with his Raider Nation buddies, rooting on his team for years! He will truly be missed.

Roosevelt is preceded in death by his father, Roosevelt Turner Jr; paternal grandparents, Roosevelt Sr. and Gertrude Turner; maternal grandparents, Floyd and Annie Brooks; father-in-law, Arthur Broadnax; mother-in-law, Beverly Smith; uncles, Otis, Warren, Ronald, and Melvin Turner; and extended family.

Roosevelt leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Linda Ann Turner; children, DerRick Anthony Turner, DerRon Adam (Erica) Turner, and Christina Danielle Turner; granddaughters, Imani Yvonne and Isabella Payton Turner; mother, Evangelist, Dr. Irene Elizabeth Turner; sisters, Dr. Anita Michelle (Ronald) Watson-Bolden, Jeanette Irene (Michael) Reissland, and Lynnette Elizabeth Turner; aunt, Helen Turner; special Yorkie-Cockerpoo buddy, Kobe Bryant; and a host of nephews, several cousins, family, and many friends.

  11. I am so sorry to hear about Roosevelts’ passing. God Bless you and give you strength. We were both Bus Drivers at National Church Residences and Share Transportation and we spent time together talking about our jobs, family and life. He enjoyed talking about his experiences in the U.S. Navy and travels around the World. His love for his family was clear to see. I admired his compassion for our passengers and his dedication to helping others. The World will miss him. I will miss him and think of him often. Probably every time the Raiders lose another game, which means that I’ll be thinking about him a lot in the future ! Go Browns, Love you Buddy.
