Sadie (Russell) Houston

Sadie Houston

Sadie (Russell) Houston was born on April 14, 1923 in Lake, MS to the late John and Emma Page. Sadie accepted Christ as her savior at an early age at the Galilee Baptist Church, in Lake, MS, where she was also baptized. Sadie was a faithful member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years.

Sadie was raised in Lake, MS before moving to Columbus, Ohio with her former husband, Ivory Russell for work opportunities, which began the exodus of the Russell and Page families from Mississippi. Sadie dedicated her life to raising her seven children: Mae, Nathaniel, Emma, Julius, Malinda, Mitchell and Eileen.

Sadie was the matriarch and glue of the Russell Family and drew all the family to her for holidays and special occasions. Sadie loved to cook and always prepared meals for the whole family. Sadie also loved her family and was devoted to raising — as well as disciplining — her children and grandchildren.

After a brief illness, Sadie transitioned this life to her eternal home on February 9, 2020 in her home surrounded by family members.

Sadie leaves to cherish in her memory her last surviving brother Robert Page; daughters Mae Logan, Emma Stigger, Eileen Russell; son Mitchell Russell; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Sadie’s memory will live on forever through her loving family and friends. Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91; 1-2.

Visitation 11:00AM and Funeral Service 12:00PM Friday, February 14, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH 2500 Cleveland Ave.

Interment at Eastlawn Cemetery.
