Sgt Ervin Lamont Vincent

VincentErvin photo2

Husband. Father. Son. Friend.

Ervin Lamont Vincent was born on February 2, 1974 in Columbus, Ohio. Lamont, as he was affectionately known by family, was the only child of the late Ervin L. and Joan Vincent. He was educated in the Columbus City School system, graduating from Beechcroft High School in 1992.

After high school, Lamont was employed with AmeriCorps as a Community Liaison. Shortly thereafter he began working as an Assistant Manager at FootAction in Westland Mall, where he would meet his future wife, LaToya.

Lamont enlisted in the United States Army in December 2002, where he served for 14 years as a 91 Bravo 20 Level Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic. He completed basic training at Fort Jackson, SC, and his listed duty stations were USAG Schweinfort, Germany, Fort Bliss, TX, and Fort Campbell, KY. During his years of active service, Lamont served three tours of duty in Iraq, Kuwait, and Qatar.

In December of 2016, Lamont was honorably discharged from active duty service, and enlisted in the Tennessee National Guard, where he served with ETRP 278th RSS FSC. While in the Guard, Lamont was employed with the Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) as a Domicile Driver until 2019.

In 2020, Lamont decided to pursue his dream of entrepreneurship, which he accomplished by establishing City to City Trucking and Hauling, LLC. This pursuit gave Lamont the freedom to be on the road during the day and with his family at night, which he loved. A year later, Lamont found a great opportunity with Phoenix Flatwork Concrete Contractor, LLC., where he worked as a Dump Truck Operator.

Lamont was a devoted husband and father, who loved spending time with family and friends, and making people laugh. He also enjoyed movies, cartoons, Marvel Comics, Star Wars, a good meal and even better desserts! He enjoyed watching sports, and was a big fan of the Green Bay Packers.

Ervin Lamont Vincent was preceded in death by his grandmother, Juanita “Neet” Bell, and father, Ervin Lee Vincent. He is survived by his mother, Joan, his loving wife of 19 years, LaToya, his children Erin Lael, Cameron Lamont, Collin Ervin, and Cairyn Sheree Vincent, and the family pet Buckeye. His memory will also be cherished by his dear aunt Saundra Crook, uncle John “Bo” Vincent (Dottie), and a host of loving cousins and dear friends, including best friends Jay Wilson and Scott Moon.

Although we hadn’t had a lot of direct contact since high school, he’d still call me cousin when we connected online. And I’ll always call him family.

Rest in Heaven brother, Ervin always had a big heart and was the type of man that would give you the shirt off his back, or his last dollar. He was one of the first friends I made when I came to the unit. He always kept a positive upbeat and always held his wife and family first. I remember the last time we talked he had started work for AAFES and was excited for what the future held.

  20. My sincerest condolences to LaToya, Cameron, Collin, Caitlyn, Erin, extended family, and friends, of Ervin Vincent. Know that we will all miss him. Ervin was an exceptional husband, father, and friend. He always had a smile on his face, a joke to tell, or a story that ended up being something to make everyone laugh. I have known Ervin since he met Toya (about 19 years ago) at Westland Mall. I witnessed the transition from a young man to a man of honor, man of God, and an outstanding Husband and Father.
No words can express the sorrow, but the world was a better place because of the lives he touched. Ervin Vincent’s legacy lives on through his four children. His body may be gone, but his spirit is forever with us.

    Love always,
The Gwynn Family (Cheryl, Miya, Bugs, and Connie)

My heart aches so much knowing my friend, my mentor, my battle buddy is gone. Erv welcomed my family to his the first day I arrived at Charlie battery and we became an extended family. Despite our short time knowing each other he taught me alot. He set the example of how the man of a family takes care of his family. His energy, his humor, his spirit, his optimism was one of a kind. He’s truly missed and will never be forgotten.
