STANFORD LAMONT WALKER, forty-six, of Columbus, OH, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at Mount Carmel East Hospital. He was born in Jackson, MS on July 16, 1973, to Shirley Walker and the late Lenwood Boyce Howell. In May 1976, Lamont and his mother moved to Champaign-Urbana, IL, where she attended the University of Illinois. They moved to Columbus, OH in January 1983. During various times in his childhood, Lamont also lived with his father and bonus mom in Houston, TX and Los Angeles, CA.

Lamont had many interests, but music was his passion. He appreciated many musical genres from classical to jazz to blues to hip-hop. He was well-read and could hold his own when discussing a variety of topics. Lamont loved being a strong man of African descent. He always shared his knowledge, heritage, and culture with people of all ages. As he often told his children, “We must be ready for the revolution.”

Although he experienced some personal challenges and adversities during his life, Lamont weathered those storms and emerged a stronger person. He attributed his successes to his belief in a higher power and support from family and friends who loved him.

Lamont was known by many names–Stanford, Lamont, Big Stan, Stan Boogie, LB, Big Sexy, Sparkus Garvey, Boogie, and Juice. But no matter which name was used, he answered. The name he treasured the most, however, was “Dad”. His children were the focal point of his life. He loved them unconditionally.

Lamont loved family. It did not matter to him if you were related by blood, adoption, or picked up along the way. For those he considered his family he was a fierce protector, strong supporter, and continual advocate.

Those left to remember him and to carry on his legacy are his devoted mother Shirley Walker Freeman of Columbus, OH; bonus mother Joyce Parrish Howell of Chino Hills, CA; loving children Beauty Walker of Phoenix, AZ, Maila Walker, Stanford-Lamont Walker, Elijah Hayes and Alicia Hayes of Columbus, OH; bonus children Sierra Price of Columbus, OH and Shania Rayford of Bowling Green, OH, former wife and always friend LaShuna Hughes of Columbus, OH; brothers Jerry D. Baker of Phoenix, AZ, Lenwood Boyce Howell III of Long Beach, CA and Joseph Parrish Howell of Aliso Viejo, CA; bonus sisters Courtney (Marcus) Gabriel of Cypress, TX, Asisa Chiles and Karlotta Wooten both of Columbus, OH; uncle Leroy Walker of Jackson, MS and bonus uncle Winston W. White of Columbus, OH; bonus aunts Mary Wright of Detroit, MI, Tanya R. Chiles, Anita Branche, and Shelia Smith all of Columbus, OH; cousins Keith L. (Willette) White of Mesquite, TX and David McMurray of Baton Rouge, LA; and lifelong friends, Terence (Sharmiko) Wright, Tobias (Kathryn) Wright of Atlanta, GA, and Alexander C. Wright III of Portland, OR.

Lamont will be missed by many friends that have been a part of his life.

Public Visitation 5-6:00pm Sunday, June 28, 2020 at MARLAN GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave .

Condolence Messages

  1. Theodore O Whitaker

It is in times like these that you must “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and, lean not to your own understanding”, because our understanding is limited. But, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths”. He is the ultimate comforter and I pray that He will continue to bless you and keep you in His care.

  2. Judy A. Alston

May his soul through the mercy of God rest in eternal peace. Prayers and condolences to the family.

  3. Orbra & Herman Porter, Sr.

This note of Condolence is extended to Lamont’s mother and my childhood friend, Shirley Walker Freeman. Death and grief are not something we welcome but as Christians we know that it is to come. The word of God teaches us that there is a “time” for everything == a time to be born and a time to die. In fact, we must die in order that we can appropriately transition to our everylasting home. So, I pray that God’s presence is felt and known to grant you peace and comfort with the Holy Spirit during this period of bereavement. It is not a matter of getting easier with each day but a matter of acceptance in knowing you are the only one that can control how you grieve. So, our family prayers for you and your family is that love is shown and felt in the days to come. The Porter Family will continue to love and pray for you and your family.
