Steven Lee Qualls, age 76, Sunrise December 17, 1945, and Sunset September 4, 2022. He was the youngest son of six children born to the marriage union of James E. Qualls Sr and Ruth E. (Hunter) Qualls. He was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio.

Steve excelled early at sports – perfectly built for the game of football – but also a basketball player and track and field participant. He joined the Army as a Paratrooper in 1963 and served his country until 1967.

More than anything, Steve was known for his voice, thrilling clubs and lounges with the likes of Sam Cooke, Smokie Robinson and Patti Labelle, until he gave his life to the Lord years later and only sang for the Glory of God from that time on.

He moved to the best/West Coast, settling in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1969, and married Kristina K. Treneff in 1973, having two daughters, Shannon (Qualls) Fitzpatrick and Nina (Qualls) Mendoza. He was a great teacher and never missed an opportunity teach his daughters to fish, hike, cook and love the open road. He traversed the U.S. from one coast to the other and every place in between, countless times. It was nothing for him to jump in the car and end up hundreds of miles away and he always made a point to take any visiting friend or family member on a momentous trip across the Golden Gate Bridge to show off the City by the Bay that he fell in love with years before.

Steven rededicated his life to Jesus in 1978 and while attending Life Tabernacle Church in Oakland, California, met and married the love of his life, Flossie L. (Williams) Qualls in 1982. With this union, Mary Dean, Walter Dean, III, Cynthia Dean and Michael Dean, came to be a part of the family. Together, Steve and Flossie committed to the ministry of Medical Emergency Pediatric Fostering and were blessed to add Traniqua and adopt Michael Qualls, Andrew Qualls, Glenna “Nauni” Qualls, Christian “Dequan” Qualls to their growing family.

Steve spent many years working as a General Contractor – skills learned from his father – and owned his own business remodeling and repairing homes, as well as working with numerous Bay Area Property Management Companies as an “Apartment Make-Ready Service”. He eventually took his love of learning and desire to better understand the struggles within the Mental Health Industry, and was certified as a Psychiatric Technician, working with several Mental Hospitals in the San Francisco area.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth Qualls, his wife, Flossie Qualls, beloved son Michael, step-son Walter, brother James, sister Sharon, and nephews Marquis and Damien.

Left to share and remember his life of love are his brother Danny (Carolyn); sisters Delores and Charlotte; children Shannon (Darin), Nina (Ismael), Mary, Cynthia, Michael “Pittsburg Mike” (Tam), Andrew, Nauni and Dequan; grandchildren Joe, Walter IV, Elonia (Ismaila), Michael Sr (Dauvia), Arvon, Brandon (Da’Naiya), Amaiyah, Marcelles, Micah, Leanna, Blake, Grant, Ariella and Michael; as well as a host of great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
