Theresa Ferguson

FergusonTheresa

Athletic, funny, and loved by countless friends and family, Theresa (Diggs) Ferguson slipped into her heavenly rest February 14, 2022. Born on Mother’s Day, May 8, 1966, in Columbus, Ohio, she was the youngest born to Andrew J. Diggs, Sr. (deceased) and Roslyn Diggs. She married Todd Alan Ferguson, Sr. (deceased) and through their union they had three beautiful children: Todd Alan II ‘TJ”, Taisha, and Tyus.

Highly decorated, Theresa honed her athletic talents as a track and field star at Bishop Hartley High School (BHHS, 84). Coached by her cousin, Solomon Espie, and Coach Jeri Price, while at Hartley, Theresa was all-state and appears on the BHHS wall of athletes for her athletic accomplishments. Holding numerous high school track and field records, in 1984 she was named the Citizen Journal Track Person of the Year. In 2018, she was inducted into the BHHS Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the inaugural class of inductees; later she was inducted into the OHSAA Hall of Fame. At The Ohio State University (88), Theresa was contributing member and three-time Big 10 Champ of the track team. With her track acumen, she coached numerous budding high school athletes across Central Ohio, including Columbus Academy, Groveport-Madison High School, and Bishop Hartley.

Employed by Franklin County for more than 25 years, she was a case worker and a trainer in the human resources department. Many participants commented that she loved what she did and always brought her sense of humor to each training.

Once Theresa gave her life to Christ, she immersed herself in praise and worship and became a member of the dance ministry at All Nations Church, ultimately serving as its leader. In serving, she touched many lives. She, Todd and the three kids were an integral part of the All Nations Church family.

She leaves to cherish her memory, mother, Roslyn F. Diggs; children, Todd Alan, Taisha, and Tyus Ferguson; siblings Melanie (Dan) Houston, Franklin (Julie) Diggs, Michele Henderson, and Andrew Diggs, Jr.; three precious grandsons, Jace and Rylen Reid, and Terrence Rainey; sister-in-law Terri Ferguson; Aunts Annie (Bob) Barnard and Laura (Elmer) Blackburne; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; best friend, Felicia Francis, and cherished friend, Verdina Roddy.

Theresa loved playing with her grandsons and doing whatever they convinced her to do. Her favorite pastimes included reading and watching television while twirling her hair. Above all, she loved to laugh and make others laugh. One of the last things Theresa shared with her sister Melanie was her desire for all three of her children and grandchildren to give their lives to Christ. Theresa shared that she had visions of her children and grandchildren serving in different ministries.

Visitation 11:00am and Funeral 1:00pm Monday, February 28, 2022 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.

  10. Dear Diggs and Ferguson Families, I send my love, and condolences. Theresa and I go way back to those awesome ANC days. We danced, praised and worshipped God together for so many years. We also built a relationship together outside of church. We were in a play together. I just have so many fund memories of my “buddy.”. She always made me laugh and cry with joyful tears. She was real, loving, sweet and caring. Just the other day I saw her in my dream, she gave me the biggest smile and said, “I think I love you too” in her jokingly way.

Mother Diggs, Melanie, Michelle, TJ, Taisha and Tyus you’re all in my prayers. To be absent from the body is to be in the presence of the Lord. Be comforted in the fact she ran her race and she finished her course. ♥️

  13. My , my , my this is shocking to me but I understand God makes no mistake. Theresa was a very fun, loving, caring, helpful, positive person, spoke the truth, always willing to assist others, joyful, concern for others, very educated, great instructor. I had the honor to meet Theresa at Franklin County I would sign up to take all her training classes because she not only taught the class but made it fun to want to continue the class and interest in other classes she trained. I could always share personal things and know it wasn’t going further me and her. She pushed me to soar in my gifts and never let no one take away what God blessed me with. She was very outgoing no matter what obstacles came her way. I’m very honored that God allowed Theresa in my pathway as a mentor, trainer. My prayers and condolences are with your children and family. You are truly missed!

  14. Liz Manns & Family

Dear Mrs. Diggs and family, please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.

I will remember Theresa as a genuine motivator, full of zeal! We shared a friendship and witnessed each other’s lives over the years that created memories I will always treasure. Working with Theresa I learned so much as she shared her talents and skills with others and extended her hands and heart to make a difference.

Theresa was blessed with the ability to celebrate people! Always ready with a cheerful hello and warm embrace; she knew how to make people from all walks of life feel special. Her laugh was infectious, and she rarely missed an opportunity to encourage those in need.

She was a proud mom who put her kids (TJ, Taisha, & Tyus) first; always sharing their countless victories, stats, goals, and stories. She lived for those moments; it was her true passion.

My girls adored Theresa and Todd and how much they showed they cared. My mom and family send their condolences, they thought very highly of Theresa and remember her as a beautiful and gregarious person.

    For Every Mountain!
    w/ Love,
    Liz

  15. Truly, by accident do I discover this deeply sad loss. I am heartbroken with this news, and most especially for Theresa’s the dear children. Theresa was student and athlete to me first, then colleague in coaching, then parent to an amazing student athlete daughter, Taisha. Always, a friend. My heartfelt prayers go out to her children, grandchildren, and extended family, especially her dear mother, Roslyn. Peace to you all.

    • My heart is so hurt over the passing of Theresa. She was one of my unofficial mentors when it came to training and getting higher education and loving other people. We worked together at Franklin County and also attended the same church ministry for many years. She spoke life into me and my children when they were younger, seeing the gifting God had for them and I think of that prophetic word coming to pass on a regular basis.

We should remember the people who bless us and pray for them often not knowing what they are going through. I just found out she passed away and my eyes water because she was loved. Heaven has gain a track star and master trainer.

Praying for protection over her legacy and that the vision she had for her children and grandchildren will come to pass for the glory of God. Amen !!!

  16. Jill Story, FCDJFS

Heaven has gained a true Angel. She always had a smile on her face everytime I would see her at work. Praying for your strength during this time.

  17. To the Diggs family, you have our deepest sympathies in the lost of your loved one. Memory of her will live on. RIP

  18. Mrs. Diggs and family, I was saddened to hear about Theresa’s passing. It takes me back to when all of us kids in the neighborhood would be out and about playing and competing. Theresa always on top in races. Makes me smile and nostalgic. I pray you all find comfort in God’s care.

  19. Katrina Jeffries

To the Diggs family. I am keeping you in my prayers as you send Theresa off. May she rest in peace. She touched many people in such a positive way that her light will always shine.

  20. To the Ferguson and Diggs families, my heart is truly saddened by the loss of such a beautiful woman. It was my honor to have met Theresa and her family. She and Todd were such a wonderful blessing to All Nations Church. Theresa served in ministry with such passion and loved worship. It was such a joy to see her worship in dance where it bought joy to the entire church. Such a leader she was. She will be truly missed. To her children “TJ”, Taisha and Tyus words cannot change or comfort you at this time. However, you will in time get through this and find a “New normal”. My prayers are with you and your family.

She was always fun to be around. After years went by, we ran into each other, and the last time we promised to reconnect. She was picking up her daughter when I was picking up my son. I’m sad to say now we never made it happen. I will never forget her smile and laugh. Heaven gained another angel.

  31. Lynda & Brenda Day

It was with the saddest regret that I Lynda Day Charles and the entire Day, Key, Family was informed of the home going of Theresa Marie Ferguson on February 14, 20022 in Ohio.

Where as, God has acted in his own time to remove her from this earthly tabernacle, a faithful pillar, beloved mother, daughter, Sister, Aunt and Friend.

And where as we pause to bid farewell to another faithful servant who had finished her course and has kept the faith, and ran her race.

We, Theresa’s California family extend our condolences to Rosalyn & family, friends of such a great lost. We rejoice in knowing that she has gone from labor to reward. Hallelujah Hallelujah ….
Joy will come in the morning. God bless you family
