Thomas Brooks Yates was born August 9, 1947 in Lexington, KY to Thomas Payne and Jean Elizabeth Brooks Yates. He departed this life on June 15, 2020 in Columbus, OH.

Thomas graduated from Henry Clay High School in Lexington, KY. He went on to serve in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Riley, KS during the Vietnam War.

Thomas was employed by IBM and Transferred to Columbus, OH. He opened his own business, Business Machine Center, with locations in Westerville and downtown Columbus. After closing his company, he worked in maintenance for Walmart Optical Lab until they closed in 2009, at which time he retired.

Thomas’ favorite hobby was riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. His passion for the bikes, as well as the culture, followed him all his days. He was a lifetime member of the Innkeepers MC. He also belonged to Christian Motorcyclists Association.

Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Payne and Jean Elizabeth Brooks Yates.

Thomas leaves to cherish his memory, life partner, Ann Bradley; sister, Yvonne Giles; brother, Gene Yates; children, Tina Curtis, Tira Hamilton, John-Thomas (Amber) Yates, Timothy (Angel) Yates, and Julie (Robert) Olinger; niece, Michela Giles; 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation 10:00 AM and Memorial Service 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.

Inurnment at Dayton National Cemetery.

Im so sorry for the loss of yall dad brother my EX husband he was a good man ,Gave me the best gift anyone could have given me and that was the teaching about God Jesus and the bible he had to be at work early mornings but stay up all night answering questions about the bible for me i will never ever forget his kindness and patients thank tou Thomas B. Mr Yates was a much loved former patient of mine. We often talked about Harley rides as we had it in common. His gentle sense of humor and shining spirit made knowing him a rewarding part of my nursing career. My prayers and condolences go out to his family and friends.
