Tonya J. Swan

SwanTonya

Tonya Jo Swan was born on August 29, 1963, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Josephine Bell and
Tommy Swan Sr.

Tonya grew up in Columbus and enjoyed spending summers with her siblings
and cousins in Monticello, Georgia, her mother’s birthplace. Playing softball with family and
friends was one of her favorite pastimes, and she was a really good player! Tonya graduated
from Linden McKinley, where she was voted homecoming queen during her senior year. After
graduation, she worked in a few different fields before settling into the Home Health industry.
In 1991, Tonya Jo gave birth to her one child, her beautiful daughter, Taylor, and their bond was
unbreakable.

Tonya was baptized at the Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith and accepted Christ into her
life at the Ohio State James Cancer Hospital. She cherished her whole family and devoted most
of her time to her daughter, Taylor, and her grandson, Romello. Just like her mother, Tonya
dedicated herself to enriching the lives of her family, friends, and clients.

Tonya Jo spent most of her life caring for others, her passion truly met her purpose! Tonya
helped care for her mother at the end of her life, took care of her uncle, Collin Bell until she
became sick, and was a delight to all of her home health clients! After Josephine’s passing,
Tonya seamlessly moved into the matriarch role of the family, also caring for her siblings,
nieces, and nephews. Tonya was extremely loving and caring, and her infectious smile, laugh,
and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.

On October 3, 2019, Tonya Jo Swan passed peacefully at Hospice of Central Ohio at the Ohio
State University Wexner Medical Center, surrounded by family. Her daughter had the pleasure
of caring for her beloved Mother until she was called home to be with the Lord.

Tonya Jo was preceded in death by her mother Josephine Bell, maternal grandmother, Annie
Kate (Couch) Freeman; paternal grandparents, John & Renetta Swan, cousin/best friend
Juanita Ann Goolsby.

She leaves to cherish her memories her father, Tommy (Delores) Swan
Sr., beautiful daughter, Taylor Symone Swan, grandchild, Romello Zayvion Thomas, sister,
Tanika (Damon) Nabrit, brothers Tommy Swan Jr. (Vera) and Herman Allen Swan; niece, Tiera
Swan; nephew, Brandon Stewart, great-nephew, Anthony Stewart; uncle, Collin Bell,
