Condolence Messages

  1. I’ve known Tonya since ninth grade at East High School. She never let the opinions of others hold her back. She set and defined her own standard of what beauty truly means. Even back then, her shoe game was tight! More recently, I’ve seen her be an inspiration and mentor to young ladies at New Birth Christian Ministries. I’ve never seen Tonya without a smile, kind word, or warm embrace. She epitomized confidence and grace. Her smile and laughter will truly be missed. Prayers of comfort to all her family, friends, and loved ones.

    Rest well, dear lady.

My family is so saddened by the passing of Tonya, who we affectionately know and love as Toni. Toni and family lived next door to my wife’s family on Maryland Ave when we started dating in 1974. Toni was a little thing then and she just loved to dance and we loved watching her and clapping/shouting!! She was so proud. She remained a good friend thru the years as she became a mother to Kajuan and Deb, then marrying and becoming First Lady of her church. She was always joyful and positive whenever we met. Surely, Tonya (Toni) earned her heavenly wings and suffers no more. Our hearts are with her family and many friends. Rest in Heaven, Toni!

My mother was so beautiful and .She loved God and her family!! 16 years her and Bishop James Tatum who I call pops adopted me into their family. When church was at their house with two members I was there when I had all 6 kids they were there. A marriage so solid and beautiful! Their children are so beautiful just like them. Saddened isn’t the right word devestated isn’t either torn and more. I love you mommy as a spiritual mother and more I am broken into parts but I know you are with God ❤️

As after that we both clicked… I mean Sharon was in the room talking jewelry an we left to go in the lobby to find subway on the table. Boy did we slam an didn’t care. We laughed an everything an after that we became friends. You was such a funny, sweet, church lady that I truly loved. Your energy was always high an that’s why I considered you my favorite sis. You will be missed by many especially me. Get your rest sis cause I know you are having a good time up there in heaven. I love you!!!

  16. Bishop James E. Tatum Sr.

Tonya was formerly married to Bishop James E. Tatum Sr. Together they were blessed with four beautiful children KaJuan Latham, Jasmine Page Barnett, Devanie Latham, James E. Tatum Jr.; two adopted daughters Siquitta Williams and Antonet Mims and a host of adopted and spiritual children whom they loved as their own.
She Co-Pastored The Way The Truth and The Life Church where she carried the gospel to those who were lost and helped many find their way to God. It was through this ministry she birthed the Women’s Healing Circle which was a ministry where women found healing, love and forgiveness. She was a powerful woman of God who loved God’s people with her whole heart. Even in the midst of adversity she never wavered in her faith in God. In her daily conversation you would hear her saying “Jesus or the blood” like only she could say it! Tonya touched the lives of the people around her with her smile, laughter and more importantly her prophetic voice.

  20. Our deepest prayers are with Lady Tonya’s children, grandchildren, and Bishop Tatum. We were members back on Fairwood and Livingston in Columbus, Ohio. God used them to help shape my life as a young believer through the power of God. I will forever be grateful. Lady Tonya was just that a lady and the sweetest and most down to earth. I know this hurt so many but know that God is with you all and will never leave you or forsake you. Draw strength from our Heavenly Father care knows and cares especially in our times of grief.
God’s continued grace, strength, mercy, and love to you all.
