Vivian Spencer was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 20, 1950, to Beotis Crowder Sr. and Christine Crowder. She was the fifth child of seven siblings. She departed this life unexpectedly on Sunday, January 23, 2022.
She attended East High School where she received her high school diploma and she also attended Columbus Business University and received her diploma in office machines. She was employed by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities for two years. She was also employed by many day-care centers. She volunteered for the Columbus Literacy Council and Women Against Rape. She was an entrepreneur and had several of her own businesses—Viv’s Variety, Operation Emergency Fund and One Hand to Another “Changing People’s Lives”. As a young mother she would attend Bishop Yancey Baptist Church with her children. In 1976 she met Charlie H. Spencer and they married in 1981.
Vivian loved to talk and talk and talk some more (Smile). Dance, sing and be with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed watching Cowboy Western Movies, “In the Heat of the Night”, and “Blue Bloods”. She barely missed watching her Soap Opera’s (Channel 10). She was a non-smoker, no illegal drug user, and a non-drinker her entire life. She always encouraging other people to do the same. Vivian always put GOD first in her life and would read the Bible with her children even when her children were grown.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother; Beotis and Christine Crowder. Husband; Charlie H. Spencer. Grandson; Dontae Lamar Maurice Crowder, Brother; Chester Scales Sr Sister; Bernice Crowder. Aunts; Charlie Mae Allen, Willie Lee Boyd, and Mattie Smedley. Aunt and Uncle; Marie and Jessie B Crowder. Aunts; Willie Mae Gates, Essie M. Hightower, Ella Mae Canady and Margaret Jenkins, Uncles; Raymond, Daniel, George Henry, Herman, Buddy, Charlie, and Wilbur. “Special Cousin” Donnie Crowder!
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her children: Maurice, Angela, and Keith. Sibling’s; Willie (Cherry) Gates, Carol Butler, Glory Fair, Erma Jean, Beotis (Barbara) Crowder Jr, Tina (Robert) Richardson. fifteen grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. “Sister in Christ” Sylvia Newman “Special Nephew” Corey Newman! “Special Cousin” Rickey Emory! A host nieces, nephews, and cousins!
Visitation 9:00 AM and Funeral Service 10:00 AM Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Unity Temple COGIC, 52 Reeb Ave.
Interment at Glen Rest Memorial Estates Monday, February 14, 2022 10:00 AM
Me and my family were hurtful to hear of my Annt Vivians passing. It truly was a surprise. She had a life, with people who loved her deeply. I pray she Rest In Peace til we all meet again.

My condolences to my cousins on the passing of their grandmother. We’re related on our dads side of the family but whenever we see Ms.Vivian she always treated us like family. I pray for healing over my cousins and Ms. Angie and that they may find the strength to move forward after enduring so much loss these past few months. Ms.Vivians spirit shines bright through her family and her legacy will live on. She was extremely loved and will be missed. May her soul find peace and continue to watch over her family. Heaven has added another angel.
