Wayne Eugene Smith was born February 3, 1949 to the parents of James William Smith and Melzetta (Roberts) Smith in Columbus, Ohio. He departed this life on Friday, November 6th, 2020 at Ohio State University Hospital (North) at 71 years of age.

In his early years Wayne was a member of Refuge Baptist Church. He was educated in Columbus Public Schools System (South High). Wayne played football and was a part of a bowling league. After many years of service, he retired from White Castle Industries. Wayne enjoyed card playing with his friends in his spare time. He also enjoyed cooking for friends and family; his favorite dish to prepare was macaroni and cheese.

Wayne is preceded in death by, parents, James William Smith, Melzetta (Roberts) Smith, and Mary E. (Green) Smith; son, Tyrone Smith; brother, James (Jimmie) Smith; paternal grandparents, Huston and Gertrude (Shaw) Smith; maternal grandparents, Beatrice Roberts Johnson and Eugene R. Roberts; paternal uncles, Stanley Herbert Smith and Lawrence Huston Smith; maternal uncles and aunts, George Roberts, Thelma Roberts Hayes, Marion Roberts, Eugenia Roberts McCarty, Timothy Roberts, and Myrtle Roberts Scott

Wayne is survived by son, Wayne E Smith, Jr. of Columbus Ohio; daughter; Marie K Peppers of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Mark Dwayne Smith and William Timothy Smith; sister, Sandra (George) Poindexter all of Columbus Ohio; grandchildren, Jadon Smith, Justis Smith, and Julie Mehdi all of Columbus, Ohio; niece, April M Smith; nephews, Robert Lewis, William (Chanell) Smith, Dashawn Hicks, Michael Greene, Darrick Harris, Eric Poindexter, and Cameron Poindexter, all of Columbus, Ohio; nieces, Angela (Poindexter) Jones, Shayla Poindexter, and O’Shanda Poindexter all of Columbus, Ohio; special friend and long-time partner, Rose Tabler; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Private Visitation 10:00 AM and Private Funeral Service 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH 2500 Cleveland Ave.
