Bill was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 6, 1943, to the late William Bristol Sr. and Gladys (Tillery) Bristol. He went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 4, 2021.

Bill was a loving husband, a devoted father, great-grandfather, grandfather, brother, uncle and son. He resided in Columbus, Ohio with his devoted brother, Jeffery Bristol.

Bill was the rambunctious oldest son of six children. He attended East High School and ultimately graduated from The Ohio State Barber College. He was an accomplished, respected barber and hair stylist. He married the love of his life, the late Deaconess Ruth E. Bristol on May 17, 1973. Following his marriage to Ruth, he began working at General Motors/Adelphi, Inc. In 2006, after 30 years of service, he retired to a life of leisure and enjoyment.

Bill spent his free time enjoying family events, visiting with friends, fishing and traveling. He loved Jazz and the Blues. B.B. King and Bobby “Blue” Bland were his favorite artist. Viewing western movies and reading western novels were also his favorite past times. He cheered every season for the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State University Buckeyes, basketball and football.

Bill left a lasting, endearing impression on his entire family. He taught many of them to sail, fish, play card games and grill outdoors. Each New Year, he greeted several family members with a personal visit with his long-time friend Robert Locklear. They practiced this ritual for over 30 years.

Bill is proceeded in death by his parents, William and Gladys Bristol, wife, Ruth Bristol, son, Monte Clark, sisters, Carolyn O’Neal, Jacquelyn Byers and Dorothy Ann Wiley.

He leaves to cherish his memory: Daughters, Arleen (Mark) Russell, Ft. Washington, MD, and Linda Michael (John Hart) of Columbus, OH; Siblings, Margie Ann (Isaac Steve) Johnston, Deborah (Keith) Williams, Jeffrey Bristol, best friend for over 71 years Robert Locklear, and great grandchildren, grand-children, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.

Private Visitation 1:00 PM and Private Funeral Service 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. (one block east of Noe Bixby, turn North on Lonsdale Rd.). Mask and Social Distancing are required. Interment at Glen Rest.

Condolence from Earl and Jeanette Lee on March 7th, 2021 10:17 pm

We were saddened to hear that our brother and neighbor had departed this earth. Bill was a great neighbor and friend for over 27 yrs. I’m going to miss seeing and talking with Bill when I work in my yard. He was a kind and generous man who was quick to offer what ever he had if he thought I needed it in order to do a specific job around my home. He was a good neighbor and would call to check on us if he hadn’t seen us out and about for a few days. The Berwick community is diminished by the lost of one of its longtime residents. William O. Bristol Jr. will be missed.

Over the years Bill often quoted a bible verse before the Family Thanksgiving Meal…”In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you”. Father – in – law we rest assured that the lord has prepared a place for you…Your son – in – Law Mark

Condolence from Theresa and Andrew Banks on March 12th, 2021 10:21 pm

So sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Bristol. I have a great memory of his unique and funny personality-we were over to his home, and he was walking from room to room asking everyone if they had change, for a $100 dollar bill. Of course no one did and of course he had a few choice words for us all. He will truly be missed. So sorry for your loss. My sincere condolences to the entire family.
