TurnerAlan

Lawrence Alan Turner, affectionately known as Alan, was surrounded by his family when he was peacefully called home on Thursday February 20, 2020. He was born on March 18, 1957 in Toledo, Ohio to Lawrence and Martha Turner. As a child he attended Glass City Church of Christ with his family, was baptized at the age of 15 and frequently visited churches in Columbus as an adult. Alan graduated from Rogers High School in 1975. After graduation he attended the University of Toledo, however he decided to pursue his passion and enrolled in the Toledo Academy where he received his cosmetology license. While working as a hair stylist in Toledo, he participated in hair shows throughout the city and won numerous awards for his hair design.

Alan relocated to Columbus in the late 70’s to further his career in hair styling. His first job in Columbus was at “Head Hunters” the hair salon on The Ohio State University. He later became the manager of the famous beauty salon “Natural Motions” on Livingston Ave. Alan worked in various salons in the city, eventually retiring from Christopher’s Hair Salon in 2012. As a lover of all things fashion, Alan became a partner with his mom at her women’s consignment shop “Revive Boutique” on Alum Creek and managed the store until its closing in 2015.

Alan was very outgoing and charismatic, to know was to love him. He was extremely artistic and creative. He enjoyed cooking gourmet dishes, drawing, and designing. He was an avid reader of cookbooks and fashion magazines; GQ was his favorite.

Alan’s health began to fail in 2018 but he remained energetic and caring, always in good spirits no matter what was going on around him. He will truly be missed by family and friends.

Alan was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Turner; maternal grandparents, Ethel and John McNeal; and paternal grandparents, Bonie and Yarlar Turner. He will be forever remembered by his mother, Martha Turner McFollins; sister, Deborah (John) Lockett; brother, Martin (Katherine) Turner; Godsister, Shawne Williams; nieces, Daniela (Glenn) Hewins, Alana (Trey) Hartley, and Martina and Victoria Turner; great-nieces, Janai and Jianna Jenkins, Nyla Turner-Watkins; great-nephews, Jalyn Jenkins, Brylan and Brennen Harltey; special cousin, Janice Kimmones; special friend, Onda Foster; and a host of loving cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

Visitation 1:00 PM and Memorial Service 2:00 PM Friday, February 28, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.
