Deacon Alfred Foxx, Sr. was born March 5, 1941 in Midway, Alabama to the late Albert and Dollie Mae Tarver Foxx. He fought a good fight as he battled cancer from 2011 until his father called him home to glory on February 18, 2022.
He was a graduate of Merritt High School and earned a BA in Business Administration. He was a skilled basketball player, where he got his nickname “Fast Black” along with other nicknames such as Al and Bosey. He also traveled throughout the South as an Insurance Agent. He was also previously employed with General Electric in Rome, Georgia, Columbus Auto Parts and Westco in Columbus, Ohio until his retirement in 2007. After retirement, he enjoyed his part-time employment at OSU East Hospital witnessing to all he came in contact with.
Deacon Foxx was a member of St. John’s Baptist Church where he served as the Head Deacon and a lead singer in the Male Chorus. He loved golfing, going to the Lodge; Free Mason 1979 Temple #53 (King David #116 PHA & Alla Baba #53 AEAONMS PHA), playing cards and was an avid bowler and a member of the “Knight Train” bowling team who won the State Championship. He was also known for dressing clean in fancy suits and bringing down the church when he sung “This Old Building.”
He was God-Fearing, a strong fighter, smart, loving, brave and a family historian with an AWESOME memory.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by Brother, Alvin Foxx; Sister, Lottie Goshay and Henry Tarver (His favorite – Uncle Suga).
Left to cherish his memory: his precious Daughters: Margaret Foxx, Brooklyn Gardner and Victoria Hill; Daughters: Patricia Foxx and Nina Pace; Sons: Joseph Felts and Alfred Foxx, Jr.; Sisters: Cherie Freeman, Alberta Simpson, Reatha Goshay, Oceola Cross and Mary Frazier; his special “Pooke-Pooke”: Amirah Gardner and a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His favorite Scripture: “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4
Visitation 11:00 AM and Funeral Service 12:00 PM Monday, February 28, 2022 at St. John Baptist Church, 1145 St Clair Ave. Mask and Social Distancing are required. Interment at Green Lawn Cemetery.
