Loving son, brother, uncle and friend, Brother Carl Allen Jr., also affectionately called Sonny Man, was called home to be with the Lord unexpectedly.
Carl was preceded in death by his mother, Mary L. Allen; grandparents, Dallas and Daisy Allen, and William and Rosie Dickerson; uncles, Marshall, Dallas, Leroy and Joseph Allen; William, Walter, Charles and Henry Dickerson; William Beasley, Melvin Mapp, Marvin Williams, Sr., Carroll McBroom Sr., Lawrence Western, Sr., John Wilson, and Marvin Bibb, Sr., Duke Western Sr. Johnny Wilson, Sr.; aunts Nancy Beasley, Mildred Mapp, Ruby Williams, Hattie Dickerson, Lula Stritmire, Virginia Dickerson, Mabel Brooks; Marcella, Daisy, Sarah Allen, and Dot. Survived by his father, Rev. Carl W. Allen, Sr., sister Rosie Frazier-Almon; nephew, John C. Allen; uncle, Rev. Calvin Allen; aunts, Ola Bibb, Daisy Wilson, Gracie McBroom, Debra Western, Dorothy Allen and Barbara Valentine, special cousins and ”road dog” Rachel Bibb and David Beasley; many other cousins, relatives and friends.
Carl joined Friendship Baptist Church and was baptized at the age of 10. Carl loved church and sung in the Junior Choir was a member of the church youth group.
Carl graduated from Marion-Franklin High School and was later drafted to the United States Armed Forces into the Control Group Reinforcement. He received a honorable discharge on October 1, 1975. Carl was employed by DCSC until the time of his retirement with 17 years of service. He was a volunteer for the VA Hospital for many years, a duty he loved and served faithfully. Everyone knew him as Mr. Carl, and his smile and humor were contagious. When the VA hospital held their annual volunteer banquets, Carl would be so happy preparing to attend. Finding the right suit, and most of all, the right date were important to him. And Carl loved to dress. His hair was his shining glory. It had to be cut and styled just right. The sales ladies at Macy’s Easton perfume section awaited his arrivals. He purchased cologne as often as one would purchase groceries. He loved smelling good. Carl loved life, and he loved people. He never met a stranger. He hugged everyone he met. And he could talk to you for hours. Carl also had a huge heart that neighborhood store owners where he shopped, and restaurants where he ate were shocked to learn of Carl’s passing. He was that “guy.” A true giver, someone who always paid it forward.
Carl later joined his father’s church, Rose of Sharon Non-denominational Church in 1998. He loved the Lord and served as the drummer, and performed up until his passing. He also loved to sing his special song, “Give Me a Heart Like Thine.”
My brother, Carl, will be sorely missed, you’ll never know how much; but God knew He already had a vacancy and a open invitation for a loveable, caring and compassionate drummer like Carl. His resume has been accepted to join God’s Heavenly choir. I found a tablet in his room the other day and he wrote a sentence in his church notes saying, “How can I get to Heaven?” Now he knows.
Visitation 10:00 AM and Funeral Service 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH 2500 Cleveland Ave.
Masks and Social Distancing are required.
Interment at Dayton National Cemetery.

The Power of Prayer Church Ministries extends its deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Carl Allen. His kindness, laughter, and smile will truly be missed. He always brought joy and a song to the Senior Breakfast fellowship. His friendship will truly be missed by many in the community.
2 Corinthians 5:1 says “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” To God be the glory. We love you Mr. Carl.
My sweet cousin will be greatly missed. His smile that lights up a room. Take your rest you deserve it. I will see you in the morning. Will always love you.
Mr. Carl was a very loving person. He was faithful to the Power of Prayer Senior Ministries Breakfast ( he loved spaghetti ) every Saturday. He loved singing up Praises to the Most High God. I thank God for the time we all shared at the Senior Breakfast it was a pleasure. I send my condolences to the the family. May God keep you and comfort your hearts.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Sonny Man. Rosie, I am praying for you and your Family. Trust God, he makes no mistakes. Stay strong in God.
My heart is hurt, I’m just finding out my dear friend from my VA days in the 80’s and early 90’s has gone home. I was just talking about him to my daughter and laughing about how much fun I would have with him. We use to talk on the phone for hours back in the day. I loved me some Carl. Take your rest sir! I’ll cherish our friendship and times together. I sure wish I could talk to you one more time. I can hear your smooth, deep voice now in my mind! Yes he stayed clean as the board of health and that deep laugh would make you smile! I’m so sorry for his family’s loss.
