hardy

Diane Townsend Hardy was born February 1, 1952 to Calvin L. and Willie Mae Townsend in Detroit, Michigan. She was called from labor to eternal rest on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.

Diane was raised in Detroit and graduated from Northern High School in 1970. On June 22, 1972 she married the love of her life, Charles Hardy, and moved to Columbus, Ohio. To this union was born one son, Charles Hardy, Jr. whom she adored. Diane was employed by C.A.M.A.C.O for many years. She retired from the Columbus School Board as a transportation specialist after 30 years of service. She enjoyed bowling, being involved in good conversation, and could fry the best chicken wings ever. Diane had an infectious sense of humor and never met a stranger. She was also an extremely loyal Michigan football fan.

Diane gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at the age of 12 at the New Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Detroit. She was a devoted member of Second Shiloh Baptist Church for over 47 years where she held many positions in service for the Lord down through the years. God blessed Diane with the gift of nurturing and reaching the hearts of young people. She was a faithful and inspiring member. Most recently she served as Minister of Youth, Youth Sunday School Teacher, member of the Kitchen Committee, the Voices of Praise Choir and the SSBC Mass Choir. One of her great loves was studying the word of God. Her favorite bible verse was Psalm 46:1 – “Be still and know that I am God.” Diane loved God, her church and her family.

In addition to her parents, Diane was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hardy Sr., and her only sister Carolyn Weeks; brother-in-laws Thomas lee, Larry Dean, George, and John Hardy; Carl Weeks; Sister-in-laws, Kate Craig and Katherine Hardy; and nephew Sergio Townsend.

Diane leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving and devoted son, Charles Jr. (Kosette); grandchild, Iyanna; brother-in law, Raymond (Randy); sisters-in-law, Janice Tanner, Dolores Fay Stigger, and Joyce Edmonson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, including special cousin, Priscilla Johnson and special friend, Clara Thomas.

Condolences for the family of “Diane Hardy”

Condolence from Pam DeLozier/Fresenius Dialysis on February 12th, 2021 6:48 am

Charles, I am so sorry to hear of Miss Diane’s passing. She was such a sweet lady. Never complaining, always smiling. I know this is such a hard time, please know that you and your family are in my prayers. I’m sure Miss Diane is in a much better place and she is with Mr Hardy. They both were fine people. I wish I would have known them before they had started dialysis.

Condolence from Beverly and Clifton Latham on February 16th, 2021 3:21 pm

To the family of Diane. This is such a shock to read that Diane has passed. I was looking through these obituaries for someone else and saw her picture. My husband and I are certainly going to miss her beautiful personality. She was always in a good mood and smiling. We had the best time being around her, especially going on the bus trips to Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Clinton, TN with Second Shiloh Baptist Church. She was so much fun keeping us laughing on the bus. We’ll also miss seeing her at Second Shiloh when we would visit. This is such devastating news. Our condolences to all of you. God bless all of you. Beverly and Clifton Latham.

Condolence from FESTUS ASHLEY on February 18th, 2021 7:22 pm

Charles, my brother and friend. The news of Lady Diane’s demise was like an unbelievable trip to outer space. I immediately began to question the essence of all the pieces of encouragement I offered that ‘mum will be well’. Regardless of this thought, I quickly came to my senses that, the Lord gives and He alone can take away. As the entire family mourns her departure, I humbly pray for the Lord’s extraordinary favor and mercies for everyone of the family. Your committed and countless medical appointment trips with mum has been registered in heaven. May the Lord console and strengthen you. Fare thee well Lady Diane until we meet again on the beautiful shore.

Condolence from Andrea Barrett on February 18th, 2021 9:07 pm

I met Diane while she worked for Columbus City Schools. She always had a smile on her face and something funny and/or encouraging to say. She always surrounded herself with people who were just like her. May you be comforted in knowing that she is on a “fast track” to Heaven for the life that she lived on earth. You will always love her, but God loved her best. Stay well, stay safe, and stay encouraged. God is with you.

All too soon, those we call mums, aunties, frinds and acquaintances have crossed over to a land that is not easily accessible to the mortal man. As we grieve the loss of mum Diane in our respective hearrs, we are also mindful that the gracious Lord is able to keep his very own in peace and comfort. Surely the days if pain and took are over. We see you mum, walking firmly on your feet in the Lord’s Garden of Paradise. Fare thee well

Condolence from Natasha Hall, Daemeion Carter and Dae’Ja Carter on February 20th, 2021 6:34 pm

It’s still hard to believe. I first want to send condolences to Charles Jr. and family. Thank you for sharing your mom with us. Our youth dept won’t be the same. She was someone we could model our lives after. She was the definition of believer and showed it. I’m going to miss just sitting with her at church….just talking about nothing and everything at the same time. I’m thankful that my children were able to grow up knowing her and having her spirit in their lives. She will forever be missed.
