Dr. Luther Isaac Ike
August 23, 1935 ~ March 15, 2020
Luther was preceded in death by his father Peyton Ike Sr., his mother, Geneva Ike, sister Marie Tilford and brother, Peyton Ike Jr.
Luther leaves to cherish his memory his wife Clara Ike, three sons, Roderick (Sakia), Reginald (Ellisa), Sean, one daughter, Lesley, five grandchildren, Mykayla, Iman Lawrence, Nathaniel, Nicole, Ikera, and one nephew, Celester Harrison.
Dr. Ike attended Parker High School in Alabama where he was the Valedictorian. Afterwards, he attended Talledega College in Alabama where he pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, (Alpha Beta chapter), and where he won an oratorical contest. Luther was awarded a full scholarship to
attended Howard University’s Dental School. (Significant since blacks in Alabama were not allowed to attend their state’s graduate schools). Luther graduated with honors, (ranked third academically in his class), and was recognized by the university as being most proficient in his class
After dental school, Luther served as a Captain in the United States Air Force, serving in New Jersey and England, returning to the United States with an honorable discharge.
Luther is the founder of Wolfe Park Tennis Association in Columbus, Ohio where he played for almost 50 years.
Due to the Corona virus limitations, at this time, services will be for family only at 10:00 am Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Saint Philips Episcopal church. Once restrictions are lifted, there will be a public as
well as a military burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial donation to Saint Philips Episcopal Church, 166 Woodland Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43203 be made in Dr. Luther I. Ike’s name.

Dr. Ike was a southern proper gentle! I liked that. He was not a bully or a bulls—ter.
He honestly modeled his love of community by outward expression in both secular and religious exercises. He had an honest and quite confidence! I liked that too!
He was an encourager and was always inclusive. I think this virtue was earned on the other side of the struggle.
You know his living mattered because he touched so many lives and leaves a legacy of love and humility of someone who carried the inner most thoughts of a good and Godly man.
May Dr. Ike’s Spirit be received as a sweet fragrance to his Heavenly Maker!

Dr. Ike will truly be missed. He took care of my dental needs as a child, and he encouraged me at church up until recently with his rich, baritone speaking and singing voices. I told him just a few weeks ago that he could easily land a job doing voice-overs. Rest in Heaven, Dr. Ike.
May the Perfect Strength of Allah (God) comfort all who knew and loved Dr. Ike. May Allah (God) be pleased with him.

Dear Reggie and Ike family,
Luther was always good to us ragamuffins at St. Phillips. He was a familiar fixture at the church and I remember seeing him in his tennis whites. He always had a kind word for me and I loved his sense of humor. As you move through this difficult time, I hope happy memories are a comfort. Joellyn Craig

Man im so heart broken. Ive know Dr Ike since I was 16, 17 years old. He was always kind to me. I liked playing tennis with him and enjoyed having conversations with him. As i got older i learned to appreciate him even more. I thought that one day he would sit down and relax…but tennis was his relaxation. Even when no one was out at Wolfe you could ride by the courts and he would be out there just waiting for someone to hit with him. I will miss him….my condolences go out to the family.
I wish that I could say something that would fill the void that we all feel from this loss. Dr. Ike was the kind of individual that you took for granted would always be around. He was always kind to my wife and I and knew me since I was a teenager. He will be missed.
I will always remember that voice of kindness and his generosity. What a wonderful man and friend. My love and prayers are with the family.

I belatedly learned of Brother Ike’s passing. While at Talladega College, he was my friend, mentor, Big Brother and finally Brother. He will be very much missed.

Doc, I always enjoyed every day I got to play tennis with you. You were a joy to be around, especially the way you had nicknames and kidded the guys and gals alike. I hope I can enjoy myself on the courts as long as you did, but maybe without that duck-walk run you had in your get-along. May God Bless you, Keep you and give your Soul rest.
