Edward Louis Carter Sr, better known as “Ed” was born on March 19, 1949 in Youngstown, Ohio to the blessed union of Dennis and Etta Carter. Ed entered his eternal resting place on July 8, 2020 and was met in heaven by his parents.

Ed graduated from South High School in Youngstown, Ohio. In his youth, Ed competed as a Golden Glove Boxer, where he defeated many opponents. Ed worked as a foreman at U.S. Steel for many years. During Ed’s life he was fortunate to be able to travel to many parts of the country but spent the last 12 years of his life in the Greater Cincinnati area.

Though small in stature, Ed’s presence was larger than life. He was an avid reader and walker and loved his Pittsburgh Steelers. Ed was known for his one-liners and for saying the unexpected. Although Ed was single, he was always looking for his next soul mate(s).

Ed was the very proud father of four children; one daughter Deana (Curtis) Taylor who looked after him while he lived in Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky and three sons; Mark Spivey Jr, Marlan (D’andrea) Gary and Edward Louis Carter, Jr.

Ed was proceeded in death by his parents and brother, Russel Carter.

Ed is survived by his children; four loving sisters, Elizabeth Davis, Betty Johnson-Bunkley, Barbara James and Machelle (Willie) Spann; ten grandchildren; Courtney Taylor, Donald Taylor, David Gary, Kennedy Gary, Delonte Carter, Maurice Spivey, Markeshia Spivey, Mark Spivey Jr, Jace Spivey and Joseph Grove and 6 great-grandchildren; Delonte Carter Jr, Dania Carter Jahsal Spivey, Marley Spivey, Tamara Johnson and Tamiya Johnson; two aunts; Willa Mae Edwards & Essie Bush; nieces, Tiffany Davis Hough, Talya Spann, Tyechia Spann and Shariene Lyle; nephews, Kevin Davis, Michael Davis, Marcus (Michelle) Gordan, Kendall Johnson and Kenneth (Lolita) Johnson and a host cousins, and extended family members living in various parts of the country.

His loss to our family is great and his presence will be missed.

Visitation 2:00pm and Funeral 3:00pm Saturday July 18, 2020 at Walker Funeral Home, 2625 Gilbert Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to, Welcome House of Northern Kentucky. 1132 Greenup Street, Covington, KY, 41011. www.welcomehouseky.org/donate/
