TannerEmanuel

Emanuel “Shorty” Tanner Jr. age 73,was born on March 16, 1945, in Columbus, OH, the first of two children born to the late Emanuel Tanner Sr. and Mary Tanner-Woods. He received his wings and went home to be with the lord on June 1, 2018.
He was married to his friend and loving wife of 48 yearsDorothy Tanner. They were blessed with two children: Daphne Magazine and Eric L. Tanner. He attended Central High School and worked until he retired due tohealth challenges.
He was a mild mannered man;a man of few words who always got his point across during your conversations with him.He loved his family and always made sure everybody else was taken care of before his self. He was especially close to his granddaughter Jordan who could do no wrong in his eyes.He was loving, caring, kind and wore his heart on his sleeve. Even in his last days his personality and character continued making an impression on all of the healthcare providers that came in contact with him.
He was also known in the neighborhood as “Shorty” and could be found sitting on the porch entertaining friends and families. There was nothing that took place in the neighborhood that he wasn’t aware of. He acted as the “neighborhood watchman”. He will surely be missed by all who knew him.
If you know Shorty, you knew that he loved sports with the Cleveland Browns being his #1 team. Win or lose; you couldn’t speak badly of his “Browns”.
He was preceded in death by his late parents (Emanuel and Mary), sister; Delores Dailey-Redman, grandparents; Professor and Odessa Tanner, Estelle Robinson and Janie Albert, uncle; Willie Crawford.
He leaves to mourn wife of 48 years Dorothy Tanner, daughter; Daphne Magazine, son; Eric L. Tanner (wife Carmen Tanner), grandchildren; Jordan Tanner, Braylen Tanner, Desirae Nickelberry (husband Courtland Nickelberry), Dion Johnson, great-granddaughter; Camryn Nickelberry. Uncle; Marvin Johnson. Adopted children: Kevin Edwards (Cynthia Edwards), Nikki Thomas, adopted grandchildren; Vivian McReynolds and Elijah Thomas
A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended families: Ewans, Hines, Prentis, Edwards, Lewis, Blount, and Turner. Special friends Sonny Burgess and Linwood Powell.

It brings sadness to know that you are gone, you were apart of our family you were an Uncle to me. I have plenty of memories of you and my Uncle Bud to make me laugh during this sad time. Whenever Bud came to do anything for me you were always with him ready to help. You and Bud are back together again, you two stay out of trouble and keep looking out for me as you did when you both were here on this earth. Now it is time for you to rest, you will be missed.

To the family of Emanuel, you have my condolences in your loss. When Lazarus fell sick and died, Jesus told his disciples that he was going to awaken him. (John 11:11) Jesus knew that death is a deep sleep state in which the dead are awaiting for the promised resurrection. (Acts 24:15). In the near future “no one will say I am sick!” (Isaiah 33:24) May you have faith in God’s promise that Emanuel will live again!
