Lo-Letha “Letha” Toland-Hall departed this life unexpectedly on March 25, 2024, at the age of sixty-one, to exchange for eternal life. She is preceded in death by her late parents, Oscar Lee Jr. and Janet Toland; grandparents; Reverend Oscar and Mary Toland, Sr., and Mr. Robert and Helena Hunt; aunt; Barbara Jones (Charles); nephew, Martin Hall.
Letha was born February 21, 1963, in Columbus, Ohio. She attended Columbus Public Schools, where she graduated from Whetstone High School in the class of 1981. Upon graduation, she attended Ohio State University majoring in Horticulture, since she had an avid love for gardening.
Letha has two sisters, Melissa and Marquita, in which they have a remarkably close relationship. They shared countless adventures, from childhood pranks to late-night heart-to-heart conversations. They learned many valuable lessons from her, and she was always there for them.
Letha, the eldest grandchild, held her position with pride. She never let her siblings and cousins forget that she was the oldest. Teasingly, she would remind them that she was the oldest and they had to obey her.
On February 5, 1991, Letha had her one and only son, Mario John Hall, who she adored. If you saw Letha, you more than likely saw Mario. Their bond was unbreakable. She has planted seeds of motherly love, encouragement, and confidence in him. As Mario grew and matured, Letha gave him the freedom to explore, to stumble, and to rise. Yet, through it all, she remained his steadfast guide, celebrating his victories, comforting his wounds, and always tending to his heart with tenderness and care.
After a fulfilling career, Letha retired from the Regional Income Tax Agency. Throughout her professional journey, she also worked at the Bureau of Workers Compensation, the Kipp Academy of North Carolina, St. Vincents Behavioral Health Center, and UBER. With her diverse skills and unwavering dedication, she ventured into entrepreneurship by starting her own janitorial service.
Letha loved being a member of Faith Ministries Church, under the Leadership of Dr. C. Dexter Wise III, where her spiritually grew under his guidance. Here, she served as a member of the “Volunteers/Outreach Ministry.” She later moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and continued her fellowship with Faith Ministries Church via online worship. In 2023, Letha returned to Columbus, Ohio, at which time she reunited with her church family.
Although Letha enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends, she felt most fulfilled gardening, fishing, and cooking. She was an incredible cook who put her heart and soul into every dish and was known for her delicious buttery pound cakes.
Letha’s memories will forever be cherished by her loving son, Mario John Hall; stepson, Carlton Reaves III; siblings, Melissa Niece (Douglas), Marquita Lewis (Kip); aunts, Jenny Gary, Cheryl Lipsey (Isaiah); uncle, James Toland (Marsha); nieces, Cydnee Toland Holmes, Martina Johnson; nephews, Douglas, Jaymison and Jaylin Niece; God-Daughter; Tanikqua Davis; beloved friend, MacArthur Tinker; former spouse, Carlton Hall, Jr.; in-laws, Deborah Hall, Cynthia Leveringston (Herbert Jr.), Tamaria Hall, George Wooten, and a host of great nieces and nephew, in addition to extended family and friends.

I can’t help crying when I read about Letha. I didn’t know her. I saw the video and I am sickened by this injustice! He should have simply called the police! She was not a threat, she had no weapon, and she cried out for help several times! That man was a fool with a gun! The scammers are also just as responsible! I’m praying for Letha’s family and all who loved her. I am too disturbed to say muvh more because this is just too wicked! Our assurance: Rev 21:4 and Ps 37:29. This is so unfair now, but Letha will be among the people of peace in due time. Also 1Cor 15:22 and 22:26.
It’s disheartening that your life was cut short by a violent thug who want an excuse to accuse an elderly god fearing black woman. Rest in power and my condolences to your family.

After watching the horrific video, I couldn’t do anything but say a prayer for this family. I do not watch the news because it is never anything good on it. I hate that this happened to your loved one. Ms. Loletha’s blood is “crying out” from the earth, and it demands justice just as righteous Abel’s blood did (Genesis 4:10,11). Please don’t let this man’s evil act conquer you. The law will deal with him. Please take care of your emotional, mental, spiritual and financial health at this time.
Ms. Loletha’s is in the Creator’s memory at this time. God’s son Jesus made it clear there will be a resurrection (John 5:28,29, Revelation 21:3,4). I look forward to meeting Ms. Loletha there.

As so many people have said on this long and moving list of condolences, I did not know Lo-Letha, your mum, your sister, your friend – but what a special person to have known, and what a senseless and wicked tragedy to have befallen her. I feel rage and grief: all the way from England, where we have a terrible and senseless problem with knife crimes. Doing an honourable and well-meaning act – and at work – Lo-Letha encountered the worst of situations and did not deserve this cruel and frightening fate, however peaceful and eternal her homecoming may now be. Footage of the event has been shown in the UK and it us truly horrifying. God bless her and may a legacy finally be won from her life and loss that makes all places and lives in our World a lot safer from fear and ignorant assumptions. A place a hand on all your shoulders and am so heartened that many strangers have sone the same in the last weeks. Again – God Bless!
