Luis Alfons Markham was born on November 8, 1944, and entered into eternal rest on November 7, 2022. He was the third child and only son of the late Martin Luther and Inez Rosina Springer in La Boca, Canal Zone, Panama.
Luis’ childhood was spent in Panama where he completed his early education and where the seeds of his life of service were first sowed. He was a young child when he gave his life to the Lord, and it was during these early years that he started working in the Sunday School as Secretary Treasurer and later as Sunday School Superintendent. During this time, he also became a part of ‘Youth Sings,’ a group of young people of various denominations, and ‘The Voice of the Isthmus,’ a weekly radio program that was
aired on missionary station HOXO in Panama City.
Luis graduated high school from the Instituto Bolivar in Panama City and emigrated to the United States where he promptly enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1967, and had a short stint in New York where he worked with an Insurance Company before moving to Columbus, Ohio, where he spent the rest of his days.
While in Columbus, Luis became a member of Greater Jordan Temple under the leadership of Pastor Lemmie Ruth Jordan where he served in various capacities. His service with this ministry led to his popularity on the West Coast and in Toronto, Canada. While at Greater Jordan Temple, he met and married Miss Jerri Lynn Ingram.
Luis continued his ministry at Unity Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Jerry Revish and Co-Pastor Danielle Revish, where he was ordained a Deacon in the Church of God and Christ. He continued to share his musical service with local churches and radio station WCVO, and sang in the “Event in the Tent” at the Ohio State Fair, with various choirs, and as part of a quartet known as “The Victory Four.” Luis’ dedication to the Word of God was a testament to his faith, and through all the trials of his life, he remained faithful until his dying day.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Bertley and Edna Springer; parents, Martin Markham and Inez Springer; brother, Daniel Markham; and sister, Ruth Barton.
Left to carry his memory is his loving wife, Jerri Lynn Markham; three sons: Carey Ingram, Anderson (Keisha) Ingram and Jeremy (Latana) Heglar; three sisters: Ana (Winston) Barrett of New Britain, Connecticut, Maria Thompson of Timonium, Maryland, and Patricia (Bernard) Woodside of Seffner, Florida; brothers: Pedro B. Austin, Jr, of Panama RP, Dr. Reinaldo B Austin of Brooklyn, New York, and Alan (Edith) Austin of Miami, Florida; sister-in laws: Kimberly (Clarence) Royal, Robin Renee Ingram; brother-in-law, James Barton; uncle, Reverend Bertley (Elaine) Springer of, Oswego, Illinois.
He also leaves 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; best friend, Bethel Smith; his extended Sykes family; and his church family at Unity Temple Church of God in Christ.
Visitation 10:00 AM and Funeral Service 11:00 AM Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Unity Temple COGIC, 52 Reeb Ave.
Monday, November 21, 2022 2:00 PM Interment at Dayton National Cemetery.

I’m sorry for your loss. Mr Markham was such a great guy. He would put a smile on my face everytime I had a chance to talk to him when he would come to dialysis. He will truly be missed. Prayers and blessing.

To the family, please accept my since condolences. I was honored to receive a friend request on FB from Luis. My first thought was, “hmmm I don’t know him”, but I accepted the request anyhow. Believing that God sends the righteous to us. He often encouraged me; even during his own illnesses. May his rest with The Lord be as rewarding as his presence while on earth serving the Lord.
Offering our deepest condolences to the Markham family. The first encounter with him was at the funeral services for his brother, Daniel. He did his absolute best to keep in touch and checking in on our daughter, Karyn (niece) until his health started to decline. We truly appreciated him for helping us through a difficult time and we pray for your comfort, strength, and peace for the family. Rest well in Heaven
Our condolences to our sister Patricia and the entire Markham family at large. We know that earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. May you be forever comforted by precious memories of Luis. Praying for strength from on high throughout this journey.

My most sincere condolences to Mrs Markham and family. Luis ran the race and kept the faith. Today his creator has called him to rest as his journey amongst us has ended. Let’s celebrate his life and be thankful for his life.
