Michael A. Hairston Sr., 60 years old, of Columbus, Ohio departed this life on February 10, 2022. Even though a failing heart took him away from this world, the strength of the love in his heart lives on in all those who knew him.

Michael was born to his cherished mother, Francis P. M. Hairston, on March 9, 1961, in North Carolina. After graduating from Linden McKinley with the Class of ’79, Michael dedicated over 25 years of his life to helping adults with disabilities gain independence and self -sufficiency at Arc West with Franklin County Board of D.D. It was there he met a colleague he asked to be his spouse and best friend, Marla Hairston. To they day he passed, Michael never stopped flirting with his wife.

An avid fisher, Michael won multiple outstanding catch certificates from Fish Ohio including the recognition of catching a 13.25-inch Crappie from Buckeye Lake in 2017. He was a passionate grill master and put love into the food he cooked for anyone hungry. Best of all, Michael filled his home with joy of laughter. Those blessed to know him were rewarded with his playful spirit that could make a cloudy day, shine bright. His jokes will be missed.

Michael Hairston Sr. is much loved by relations present and passed. He is preceded by his mother, Francis P.M. Hairston; his younger brother, Mark Hairston; and his godbrother, Fred McClean. He is survived by his gracious wife, Marla M. Hairston; his two sons, Michael Hairston Jr. and David Busby; his two stepdaughters, Naomi Lewis and Anna Hoegner; his four grandchildren; his sister and brother, Lisa M. Hairston and Keith Hairston; his aunt and uncle, Barbara J. Hairston-Lewis and Benny K. Hairston; and his cousin, Deborah Hammond. As well as the many extended Hairston kinfolk.

His tough exterior only made his sensitive soul that much more endearing, and we take comfort knowing Michael is at peace in the light.

Visitation 9-11:00am Saturday, February 26, 2022 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH, 2500 Cleveland Ave.
