A time to be born…
On September 7, 1935, in Cruger, Mississippi, the late Ms. Jeffrie Pearl was wonderfully blessed with the birth of her son, Huey Pearce Granderson. Through God’s providential plan, Huey was raised by his aunt and uncle, the late Cora and Lee “Doc” Granderson, along with Huey’s brother, James Hamilton Cocroft.
A time to build up…
Huey moved to Columbus, Ohio in the 1940’s. Huey was always a hard worker and understood the importance of doing whatever was necessary to provide for his family. Huey’s proudest and most enduring professional accomplishment was his more than 30 years of employment with the T. Marzetti Company from which he retired as Production Manager. Huey’s retirement was not because of his inability to perform at a high level, but was because of an unexpected health challenge. In 1992, Huey was advised by his cardiologist that he was suffering from congestive heart failure and had no more than five years to live. But Huey’s faith and determination was greater than his doctor’s diagnosis.
Huey’s faith was cultivated and enhanced through his committed membership with Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church where he served a part of the church’s Transportation Ministry.
In his later years, Huey assisted his brother, James, at his business by making deliveries and doing anything else “Bro” needed him to do. More often than not, Huey and James spent their “work” hours reminiscing about family, laughing about life lessons from Uncle Doc and keeping one another company. Those times together were some of Huey’s happiest moments, as family was always important to him.
A time to die…
In recent years, Huey courageously faced several health challenges. But his body was tired and would not permit him to live the active and abundant earthly life that he enjoyed. So, on September 26, 2022, Huey traded time for eternity and entered peacefully into the presence of God. Awaiting his arrival were dear loved ones – his first wife, Ernestine Battle Granderson-Owens and their children Huey, Gail, Tony, and Michael; sister, Walterine Scott; and brothers Timothy and George Towers who preceded him in death.
A time to mourn…
Left to cherish Huey’s memory are his sons, Bryant and Marcus Granderson and their mother Sandra; sister, Barbara (Mack) Burks; brother, James H., and his wife (Huey’s Sis), Jean C. Cocroft; special friend and loving caregiver, Mattie Thomas; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends, including The Hightower Family.
“He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.”

My condolences to the Granderson family. May God’s peace and comfort be with now and beyond this difficult time. Mr. Granderson was such a nice man, I would occasionally run into him and always made it a point to speak to him. While he didn’t know me personally I certainly knew who he was ! Knew the boys and went to LindenMcKinley with Gail. They all are missed! Rest

My deepest condolences to the Granderson and Cocroft families. Huey was so sweet and kind. He will truly be missed.
To Huey’s Family…I had the privilege to work with Huey at Marzetti’s beginning in 1973. He was such a force for the plant at 3838 Indianola Ave. He really was so devoted to the operation making sure everything was running correctly and folks were doing what they were supposed to be doing. Watching him work and how he conducted himself taught me and inspired me to emulate his habits. Huey could be direct at times (usually with good reason) but he was always a gentleman. Thinking back about those early years in my own career; Huey and Katherine Hill were the faces of the Marzetti Salad Dressing Plant. I have so many great memories of Huey and will cherish all of them. Huey was given a tough message from his doctor in 1992 but just like how he worked and endeavored during his life he lived another 25 years past what the experts predicted. I wish his family peace and know he will live in your hearts. Sincerely TD
I will always remember Huey. He was a fine individual and very well respected employee of the Marzetti Co. I always e.enjoyed working with and around Huey. I am very sorry to hear of his passing. I am sure he will be missed by many, many people.
I want to thank you for recognizing my achievements and ability to overcome obstacles. You could see who I was and appreciate it. Some things I believe you didn’t know and were caught off guard, most of all I could see your intentions. It was special between you and me. My condolences to your family. I appreciated you. Wish there was some things I could tell. R.I.P Mr. Granderson. You will be missed.
