Sheldon Jay Smith was born to Joseph and Edith Smith on July 31, 1946.

Sheldon graduated in 1966 from Hopedale High School. He joined the U.S. Navy after graduation as a stock -control clerk (clerical). He was awarded National Defense Medal. Sheldon was later employed and retired from Columbus College of Art and Design as Building Manager.

Sheldon was married to Betty Smith who preceded him in death.

Sheldon is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Edith Smith; brother, Charles Smith; and sister, Sandy Young.

Sheldon is survived by his son, Sheldon Jay Purdy Sr.; grandsons, Sheldon J. Purdy II and Dion R. Purdy; great grandchildren, Tali, Zayvion and Cayden Purdy; brothers, Glen Smith, Conrad Smith, Randy Smith, and Gaylord Smith; sisters, Valjean Peterson and Sharon Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sheldon will be truly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Visitation 1:00pm and Memorial Service 2:00pm Thursday, May 6, 2021 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH, 2500 Cleveland Ave.
