Tarry Lee Ellison, was born in Columbus, Ohio. She was the second child born to the late Lemon J and Marion V (Bates) Ellison, on January 2, 1947. Tarry grew up in Flytown (old Westside) and moved to the Westside known as Burnside. Tarry was baptized at an early age at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, and rededicated her life, where she remained a faithful servant, until God called her home on Monday, September 21, 2020.

Tarry received her education in the Columbus Public School system. She attended Everett Jr. High and Central High School. She furthered her education by attending Ohio Beauty School and Gospel Lighthouse Church School of Ministry. Tarry had many endeavors that she was working on such as Ladies Go Home Inc., Robert’s Lawn care, her prison ministries, and her favorite, talking on the radio. She was proud of her first beauty shop. Every time we would ride down Miller Ave., she would let you know that was her first shop. But most of all, she loved serving the Lord and singing her gospel music. When talking on the phone she would always say, “I’m not going to hold you long” (smile), 2 hours later, but she never ended a conversation without saying, I love you and God loves you more.

Tarry is preceded in death by her parents, Lemon and Marion Ellison; son, Robert L. Ellison; sister, Penny Mohammed; and brothers, Joseph A. and Thomas H. Ellison.

Tarry is survived by her son, Michael L. Ellison, Sr.; grandsons, Michael Jr., D’Von Ellison and Robert Mullins Sr.; granddaughters, Da’shanta and Amanda Drew, Tamia, Mykeisha, and Brianna Ellison, and Justice Mullins; great grandchildren, Michael III and Mi’Air Ellison, Robert Mullins Jr., Giavonni Drew, Ayiona, Chaniya Mullins, and Liberty and Freedom Mullins, Ahniya and Ahlaiya Thomas, Daymoni, Dayonna, Dayceon, and D’Kari Wright, Elihah, Ethan, and Emiya Martin, and Journee Johnson; uncle, Adam Ellison; special cousins and friends, Betsy Bates, Theresa Alfred, Lynn Brice-Conner and Angela Drew; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Private Services entrusted to MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH, 2500 Cleveland Ave.

Interment at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.

So thankful to have met Tarry years ago and she has left such an imprint on my heart. She always had a smile on her face and loved to tell everyone about how great Jesus was. I saw her not too long ago and she did what she did every time. She placed her hand on mine and told me she loved me. You earned your wings, Tarry and are with your family celebrating with Jesus. You will be greatly missed. Praying for the family as they mourn the loss of an angel they knew on earth.

Terry is a magnificent representation of the Spirit of God in that she gave and served others wholeheartedly. She motivated others to care about the less fortunate, the down-trodden, the homeless and those abandoned and forgotten including those brothers and sisters incarcerated.
Accordingly, she served tirelessly and particularly in the Mt. Olivet Prison vineyard where her ministry will be sorely missed.
