Zahara Moody Main Photo

Zahara ‘Betty Jean’ Moody graced us with her presence on Wednesday July 25, 2001. Zahara melted the hearts of her family who embraced her with love.  This beautiful angel of light was bequeathed the names of her maternal and paternal grandmothers’. But the name Zahara, is of Hebrew origin and it means “to shine”.

For 20 years God allowed Zahara’s to shine her precious light in the lives of the people she loved.

Zahara was a true charmer. Affectionately known as “Baddy Z’ or “Lil Gurl” by her friends and family, Zahara had an infectious personality that spurred laughter and joy.

Zahara’s animated personality and colorful spirit was made evident by her becoming the queen of the selfie. Additionally, Zahara loved dancing and singing. Music was a part of her life and her phone, and her room were her stage. Zahara was a drama queen. Although she never got an Oscar, her theatrics earned her a starring role in the Columbus based movie, the Cross Over That Won the Game. She also had the kindest affection towards dogs, and she absolutely loved, loved, loved to cook. Zahara made life special. Zahara graduated from the home of the fighting bull dogs, South High School in 2019. She was very proud of this accomplishment.

In her short life, Zahara learned a lot about the importance of faith and trusting God. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was constantly seeking God to answer her many, many questions.  She loved going to visit churches, but it was the music ministry that she found herself lost in worship.  Zahara’s favorite song was ‘Father Can You Hear Me Now” a gospel song from the Tyler Perry movie Diary of a Mad Black Woman. This song touched Zahara and she sang it with passion and conviction.

Zahara was a princess in the eyes of her father. She was the daughter that called him and bugged him about everything. He was her sounding board and her number one fan and she was his greatest challenge as they acted just alike. She was his daughter in the mirror of life and he loved her deeply.

On Tuesday October 19th in the year of our lord two- thousand twenty – one, our Princess Zahara Betty Jean Moody fell asleep. Like the fictional character sleeping beauty, she will only wake up when her true love Jesus awakens her, and we believe that Zahara Betty Jean Moody will rise again.

Zahara is preceded in death by her paternal grand-mothers Lady Betty Hairston and Lady Jean Moody Scott, her mother Lady Jessica Hairston.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving father James (Linda) Moody, siblings: Hairston Monroe, Christopher Duncan, Tyler Moody, and Janae Wilder. Maternal grandmother; Lady Jean Moody Scott, a host of friends, relatives and loved ones.

Private Visitation 1:00 PM and Private Funeral Service 2:00 PM Monday, November 1, 2021 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. (one block east of Noe Bixby, turn North on Lonsdale Rd).

Please keep the Moody family in your prayers as they complete Zahara’s obituary.
